(NBT) upgrade iDrive knob from smaller to larger

So, I have the first generation NBT car, which still came with the CIC-style smaller iDrive control knob. This always bugged me a bit. I went and bought a cheap ebay replacement which sits on top of the small knob, but it's actually crap. Can't recommend those at all - they don't fit well, rotating the knob is not smooth as it never sits perfectly and there's always friction, and it feels very plasticky. 0/10 would not recommend.

Anyways, I saw various threads where people want to upgrade from CIC to NBT, or from non-touch controller to touch controller, but haven't found a clear answer to my specific situation.

If I already have the NBT non-touch with old knob, can I plug-and-play install any NBT large knob from ebay, provided I don't care about touch functionality? I'm looking at cheap options, it doesn't bug me so much to spend 300+ euros on this. Or do I need the touch controller and coding as well?

Also, if anyone has an actually recommendable, high quality, perfect fitting replica knob, preferably ceramic/glossy, do let me know.

I bought one of those and I like it. It does have a little friction when you spin it, but other than that I have no problems with it.

No it is not plug and play. NBT touch controller runs on KCAN2 and you have to jump wires into the KCAN2 bus in the back of the head unit.

Thanks. Do you know was there ever a non-touch larger knob controller made, one that would be plug and play compatible?

Nope. The larger touch controller is a new controller introduced in 2014.
