So I just updated my maps to North America PREMIUM 2021 , and the nav pulls up, somehow will only pull 3 contacts from my address book, and then after running for 5 min, does a full restart on the iDrive system, whether the car's ignition is on (engine running) or not.
It even restarted the nav on its own while I was driving around the neighborhood.

I NEVER RECEIVED AN ERROR MESSAGE. It told me "Map Update Successful" and then restarted the system the 1st time, like it's supposed to.

Is there a chance that the file somehow corrupted? Please let me know if you have any ideas.

Yes, I've searched, and could only find one thread where someone had this issue on a '12, but the thread had no responses.

I'm going to try redownloading the maps again, and cross my fingers that this works.

So on my drive to the office today, the car consistently restarted the iDrive on its own every 2 minutes. When I try to show what "version" my maps are on the screen, it gives me a completely blank screen.

I'm going to cross my fingers and try to reload the Nav file this afternoon. It took almost an hr yesterday.

Well, I don't know what to tell anyone that runs into this same issue.
Car was parked out in the Sun all day while I was at work. Now the navigation works perfectly.
Doesn't randomly restart, I can see the maps version I have instead of a blank screen, and if I put in an address that my old 2013 apps didn't recognize, the Nav now pulls it up.

Electrical gremlins I guess??
