Minor Accident

Ran something over on the freeway and it damaged the radiator should i take the car to the dealership? Or just call insurance and take it to a different shop?

Advice would be much appreciated.

Car is a 2014 435i coupe.

You can claim it under the comprehensive part of your insurance. Depending on the damage and your deductible. You can gauge the cost if it worth claiming under insurance (might increase).

As per what you said... only the radiator is damage. Then how much for a radiator and how much is your insurance deductible.

If it's just a radiator, it's pretty much just labor, about 2-3 hours and the cost of the radiator. Dealer rates in Norcal is like $225-$275/hour. Indy shops are $75-$150/hour.

*Personally* - I'd call a local BMWCCA club shop. They are going to give you the better hourly rate 2 hours and the price of the radiator at near wholesale price versus a dealer which would try to book you at 3 hours and retail on the radiator (like 150% mark-up).

If your deductible is $500 or more, there's no point in calling your insurance.

Just remember, whatever you hit was kicked up by a car in front of you and was moving when you hit it.
