Blown N20
My 2015 F31 with 97k on the clock broke down the other day. Started misfiring as I came off the highway and started bucking pretty bad at the light. I was literally in front of a dealer so I limped over and left it there. Long story short, C4 doesn’t hold compression, leak down into crankcase. Sounds like at a minimum piston rings?
Seems like the cost to tear into it to diagnose and repair would be counter productive. I'm told it would probably be easier and more reliable to just replace the motor. Dealer quoted 14k all in for replacement, so I’m guessing an indy would be probably half. Running, the car could probably have gotten 17-20kish from what I’m seeing online. Question is, how does the engine replacement impact the value? I would assume its negative? How is the reliability after an engine replacement? Should I just sell it immediately? Kind of bummed it only made it to 97k. JB+ for 40k miles. Any constructive insight very much appreciated. Never had such an extensive repair done. Edit- I just realized this is the f34 forum, I guess I'm one of you now |

It will be worth a lot more with a rebuilt engine that works than a blown engine that doesn't. I still wouldn't put more than half its book value into it.
