I have the same 5 button as you have. But its not the same when I open it. The ribbon cable is not possible to take off on button side. Only on print plate side. It has to be different knobs. I have taken it a part, bit for bit.

Hmm. Yes your idrive knob is totally different. Although if the top cover is the same as mine, it can be done. You just need to get 5v from the idrive knob to the mouse cover. Can you show me the top cover?

The top cover is not the same, so I then need to make something, to make it work. I have thought about that solution. 5 volt is not a problem.

For others to know. My knob is a CIC but for E series. You need to have F series to have it plug and play.

Managed to connect 5 volt to touch pad and it worked.

I mounted the touch pad behind my Idrive knob. Easy access. This is a soulution for E series with or without CIC controller.

About 50% of the time when I turn on the car, I get no audio out of the android side (no audio for anything, music, video, nothing) The legacy side works fine and has full audio. If I turn the car on and off a few times it fixes this issue. Has anyone else run into this? If so, what might fix it (software update?)

Hi all,
I just installed 7.1 version of the AVIN system in car, thanks to the BMW DIY Guy for the great guides. Now that it's mostly working, my biggest wonder is that my UI looks totally different than those shown in the DIY Guy's video. I have three panels across, the bar at the top is arranged differently, and it just looks a bit older than what he shows. Is there a way to update this? I've installed what I think is the latest .img file, which I thought would update the UI as well, but I guess not.

You change the interface through the factory setting menu

I have also this issue. But not as often as 50% only once and a while. It has been less on the latest fw but its still there. I have made my own reset button inside ashtray, so I can reset unit in with on push. I do not have a clue what is the problem. Sorry.

Check if aux auto switch is selected in factory settings.

Ok, I'm making progress on this. My contribution to the thread is to let people know that I got an aftermarket backup camera working on my manual 328i by connection the camera power and the AVIN's camera sense wire to the backup light's circuit. I seem to recall that it might not be so simple on an automatic.

Anyway,. I've tried the newest rooms available and found that they mess up my GPS acquisition pretty badly. I've rolled back to 20180615, but this seems to make my GPS sound through the left front speaker (or so I understand it) 'pop' pretty badly when playing sound. It also seems to direct all of the sound into this speaker while pretty much turning off all of the others. I don't think my original firmware had either of these problems. Does anyone have links to older (2017?) Firmware for gen2 Android 7.1 system?

so just thought id throw this out here to help people that already have the tune2air bluetooth , an iPhone, and the CarPlay adapter. Ive been using the tune2air to play audio because audio from this unit is utter shit. Welp I bought a aux splitter. I plug the tune2air into the usb and one aux cable into the splitter. Then i connect the other cable from the headunit into the splitter. I allow my phone to connect to the tune2air and plug into the CarPlay adapter. The audio is quiet so i have to turn the settings to 40 on the headunit but the audio that comes from the CarPlay adapter is now the same as the tune2air. I have no idea why this works but Im very happy it does. Now i just have to plug into the iPhone from the CarPlay adapter cable and everything works great. Siri,Messages, Navigation all read properly . I realize this is kind of a specific set of people im talking to but it works great.

your phone send audio via BT to carplay. You should disconnect Android from Y adapter to test it.
