Slow speed accident no damage now what?

Picked up my 2015 335i less than a week ago. Two days ago someone rear ended me at a stoplight. I'm guessing it was a sub 5 mph impact. I got out and to my surprise saw no damage, not even a scratch. Maybe a very slight crease but have to really look at it closely. Had the cops come write a report because the guy was refusing to give me his insurance.

Should I take the car to get checked over? The bumper cover moves a decent amount in the impact area. Not sure if there is a styrofoam absorber under there that got crushed. Would be my luck that after getting rid of my beater I get rear ended in my new car. Thanks for the help.

Have it checked out, you don't want to find out a month or a year down the road that there's damage.

If I have it checked out do I have to go through and claim it through insurance to cover the cost of that? If so do I call mine or his. Honestly never been in an accident.

Also if someone tried to not give me their insurance information after just rear ending me my neck would start to hurt, bad enough to take an ambulance ride at least.

I was rear-ended in my 340i a month ago. From the force/sound/feel of the impact, I thought the entire rear end was crushed up to the rear window or something!

It turns out, a lady in her Ford mini-van popped me good and ultimately only did $2.2k worth of damage: new bumper, new bumper lower valence and and internal part or two designed to take such damage.

The outline of her license plate and the bolts holding it on were firmly imprinted in my lower bumper.

One thing to watch for are thread-like, spidery, thin stress lines in your paint that can be difficult to see unless you look from various angles. Take it to a body shop and have them look it over. Believe me, they'll want your business and will do their best to find SOMETHING they can do!! hahaha

2) Take to BMW Colliission Center and have it checked out. Even a small dent or any scratches. If there is, get a new bumper.

Okay I will call my insurance company tomorrow and talk with them about what happened. Really glad I got the police report now.

Funny part is the guy started getting all aggressive with me when I wasn't "talking" to him. I was on the phone instead with the police. Don't get some people. I'll update the post. Thanks guys.

This. Always report the incident (no matter how minor). Get a police report number and a copy of the report.

yeah i'd make the claim through his insurance company. some states are no fault states, in which case you'd have to call your insurance, but i'd call his first. they'll be sure to tell you if they aren't going to cover your damage.

So is your E39 530i 5MT still in your garage? Welcome to the F-chassis!

Which shop did the repair for your bumper?

Okay, so you have me at a disadvantage as you kinda know who I am but I don't know who YOU are!

The E39 was sold a couple years ago. It went to a young lady in Santa Rosa who has since sold it so I've lost track!!

I took the 340i to AW Collision. Nice place and pretty close to work and BMW Collision Certified.

I got rear ended in stop-n-go traffic so it was fairly low speed, and only 6 months after taking delivery. Driver behind me was looking at her phone or something (I have a rear dash cam)... it didn't look TOO bad at first but it felt like a fairly hard hit. Her husband was pushing me to take cash and just leave it but I said no way am I driving around a brand new car with your license plate imprinted in my rear bumper, on a car I plan to keep till it dies... pictures speak for themselves.

Insurance replaced it without questions and it was done at a BMW certified collision center. The original bumper is sitting in my garage for shitz n gigglez. I was surprised the M Performance diffuser was unscathed though, lol.

Estoril Blue 2? You and I had the same kind of accident. They did have to replace the diffuser on mine plus an internal component or two.

AW Collision is not BMW certified collision repair center(CCRC).

The closet CCRC to South Bay is Weatherford@Oakland.

So how much did your E39 cost in terms of maintenance and repair? Did it go through the long list of fixes as shown on bimmerfest E39 sub-forum?

And how is your impression of F30 versus E39?

First of all, get some silicone windshield sealer and stick it behind your tow hook covers. You'll still be able to get them off if you need to but they'll never come out unintentionally.

Second of all, if you see no damage at all, just forget it happened, move on, and forget about it. This forum is full of "hyper-car-driacs" that worry too much

Yes, they are. I'm not sure why you think otherwise but trust me, they are!

E39 was pretty easy to work on and take care of on my own. I dunno the cost. The biggest ticket I paid for was 1700 for a new clutch but I was able to mostly take care of everything else: changing radiator, fan pulley, fuel filter, brakes, etc.

F30 is awesome...especially with the B58 engine! I love that thing. While it does have some turbo lag, they've dialed out quite a bit of it from the previous engine, N55, that I had in the 2014 335i.

The 5-series just got way too big and way too much money. The 335i was a lease take-over "test it" car to see if we would like it. Obviously we did!

Yeah F10/G30 are huge, the F30 and upcoming G20 are about similar sizes to E39.

The F30 is a great car, there are lots of complaints about steering feel and such, but coming from E39, the F30 feels great and rotates well and provides lots of driver feedback(if one adapts to it).

It would be great AW Collision is truly CCRC(much closer than Weatherford), bmwusa.com CCRC search does not say it is though.
