What should I do with these Brake Calipers?

Hi, I have a 328i M Sport and the brakes look terrible. Not exactly sure if they are aluminum. But they sure look corroded.

Wondering if anyone has sanded or polished them or if I should just use caliper paint to freshen them up?

I am not going to do a flashy red, yellow or blue color. I think the goal is to camouflage them as much as possible because they don't look that good.

Let me know what you recommend!

Thanks!

Have you tried just cleaning them? Spray some degreaser on them and give them a scrub with a brush.

They look good if you paint them. Black is always a safe choice.

This is how mine look after painting them.
Cleaning itself made a difference.
You can always paint them, more of a neutral shade. Black/grey

Perfect opportunity to paint them. Not sure how blue or red is flashy, if anything it represents an upgraded or premium sports package.

If you just want to clean them, try Simple Green.

Garage List
+1 on powder coating... below is my experience with R32 calipers I bought second hand for my Nissan 240SX. Looked like someone sprayed them red with a spray can which was chipping.

I disassembled them, got them powder coated for $200ish CAD from a shop and rebuilt em myself. Money well spent.

powder coat is definitely the best option if you can live without your car when the calipers are getting done. Or if you get the shop to do all the work including flushing the brake lines, than all these costs add up.

Not concerned about the paint chipping over long term as i will do them again for $30 and a different color.

Maybe this is a stupid question but why do you need to flush the brake lines when you get them powder coated? I'm having my M sport brakes powdercoated soon for $500. This includes removing, sandblasting off the paint, disassembling and reassembling.

If you have the Calipers off the car for extended period, you may want to flush as a precautionary step. This will help you make sure no air entered the brake system.
