'17 340i Should I buy?

Hey guys,

I'm in the market for a 340i and have been looking at a '17 340i demo Estorial Blue w/ Coral Red Dakota Leather. The vehicle is priced at $43,688 with original MSRP at $61,770 and has ~3500 miles. Has the following packages:

Technology Pkg
Cold Weather Pkg
Track Handling Pkg
Driver Assistance
Driver Assistance Plus
Parking Assistant

I'm not able to lease because it's a 2017 model so I will have to finance it. The discount is roughly 30% from MSRP however, it is not CPO'd. This has me thinking whether it was a demo used on the track because of the track package on the vehicle. She is titled as lease in NJ so I would be the 2nd owner.

So I would love to get your guy's opinion on this.

Low miles, I'd get it.

Although it could've been tracked, most of us get the THP for adaptive suspension, variable sport steering, m-sport blue brakes and dark gray 398 wheels with go flat Michelin pilot super sport tires. It's the best package of your list imo.

This is an attractive deal considering most of factory warranty is still active. Thorough pre purchase inspection would be still a good idea.

That car was listed as a personal lease. I don't think you need to worry about it being a 'track car'.

United hasn't had it that long, but you should be able to work with them on that price. Not sure how it is a 'demo special', though, when they bought it at auction 2 weeks ago.

Interesting that they have a white one spec'd the same from the same auction and a NJ lease as well that started at the same time...

They have multiple units all equipped the same with same lease inception dates and sold at the same auction. Must be executive demos from the corporate office in Woodcliff Lake, NJ, where the leases originated.

I'm just wondering why it would be turned in so early though. Maybe the guy couldn't make the payment but I did drive it and it is a complete beast. Have a '16 320i base model with the owner's choice ending in December but trying to get out of it early. They said they might be able to do something last week in August with the 120 day maturity mark. I'm just trying to get out of it without making anymore payments on it.

See my post above. United lists it as a demo. BMW has a corporate office in Woodcliff Lake, NJ. All four of the cars they have with the same equipment (the Superman car you listed and the three white ones) originated on the same day last year out of Woodcliff Lake and all sold at the same auction. They are probably exec demos. I've seen them go with under 1000 miles before.

Honestly it doesn't seem to be a bad deal, 3500 is still new, no accidents?, for the options at that price is worth it to me. So what if it was a exec demo, it has 3500 miles. Go for it, and of course going from a 320 to a 340 is a jump, went from a 180 hp 4 banger to 300 hp inline 6. I'd go for it.

I would assume they are BMW Performance Center Delivery cars... Not being a CPO with that type of equipment... Just a little weird.

If you're so worried about CPO just ask them to CPO it and pay $1500 bucks or whatever they charge. It also may not be CPO because it has more factory warranty left than the CPO would offer. For example you may see 16 CPO's but maybe not 17's or 18's since they still have more than the 2 year extension CPO offers.

In any event, 3500 miles is a brand new car. As long as it has no accidents and looks/feels like a new car (no mileage tampering) go for it.

Don't CPO it now pay to have that done just before the factory warranty goes if you plan to keep the car.

This would be the smart move. OP seems worrisome about the fact that it's not CPO, just figured I'd make the suggestion.

Oh CPO is good but better spend the $ later versus now in case you don't keep the car, smash it up, etc. However...

If financing through BMWFS you can often get better rates if CPO and if you get the maintenance plan. So getting now might end up being a lot cheaper. Gf for example got a CPO car and by the time I added maintenance and bought down her rate the maintenance ended up costing me like $300 out to 100K.

I’m surprised no one asked about in service date. If it was early in the model year, you may have only 2/years left on warranty. If it’s late in the year, you could have almost a whole year extra. That could make a difference in price.

Checked the carfax and no accidents or any report of odometer issues. Will be going back in next week to see if the 320i can be returned without me adding any additional payments on my owner's choice which end's in December. I would need tires but hopefully the value and the amount owe'd would be even to cancel out. Will need to bring the price down to $41k at least to make it work.

His car is a '17 though, and with half as many miles as yours had. I'd say the asking price for his is about right. Also consider that it's the listed price. He'll probably be able to get them to come down some.

If I remember correctly from the Carfax, it was 25NOV17.

EDIT: Meant to say 25NOV16.

Sorry. I meant to type 16, but still off by a month.

I would ask them to throw in the CPO. Again, they just listed these cars a couple of weeks ago. They have some room.

No problem. Do you think I should wait toward the end of the normal warranty to ask for it or have them do it now? I noticed when I initially went there and tried to see what the payment would be like they had a couple of aftermarkets listed on the car. They had Lo/Jack and some sort of paint protection which both totaled to ~ $1300 i think it was. Do you think this is bs or can I have them drop those charges?
