4 series fender "vent" retrofit

hey guys, i have a 440i 2018 and ive been told that the fender boomerangs have lost their function for my model year. is the actual fender now different or can i just buy the older boomerangs and swap them and regain function? can anything be done on this besides swaping fenders?

Garage List
On cars with the vents there is an actual scallop in the fender that they fit into + an actual opening in the fender that matches with the opening in the cosmetic vent + continuation of that opening thru the inner fender liner so that air may flow thru from wheel well

If the openings are gone in the fender/wheel liner it would be pretty tuff to cut one in properly

Would need to see an actual fender that you're talking about.

If no opening, you may be able to retrofit older fender & wheel liner to regain functionality, but seems overly expensive just to add a functional vent

Can you see through the boomerang? If so it's functional.

Was your car built after 02.28.2017?

There is a new part number for the fenders, wheel liner and vent starting 3/2017

That may or may not mean anything as it says it’s exchangable with the older part.

FWIW, when I retrofitted vents on my F30, after discussion with shop, decided not to make the the vents functional. They aren’t there (functional) on F30, so I felt it would only possibly pass brake dust through to exterior fender.

I dunno what's worse. Bmw removing the vents on the 4 series or when they favelifted the f10 to move the indicators to the Mirrors and just put a plastic chrome piece where the side marker use to be so they didn't need to press new fenders

The yare not backwards compatible! That's what I read, no own experience. Also on all aftermarket "vented" breathers you will notice they are claimed to be only compatible with pre LCI cars.
