Trying to do underglow
Hi all,
So I am trying to install underglow but ran into some trouble. The problem is the battery is in the trunk and usually it is ran from the front of the car where the batteries usually are so it is easier to run underneath. It is difficult to run the wires from the trunk area and on too of that, can't put a light on the rear bumper bc of the proximity between the diffuser and exhaust area which gets hot. There is the positive terminal in the front but just wondering where to attach the negative in this case. Just don't want to make any mistake. If anyone has experience with running wires from the trunk are using positive and negative please help! Thanks guys! |

You're not asking for opinions, which is probably really smart on your behalf. If this is for your honda...have fun.
Don't run wires from the battery directly, but through some fuse...and whereever you put the lights, keep them away from the exhaust and gas lines...just to be safe. Wiring diagrams for systems that might have the amperage and safety margin you need you'll find at newtis.info. Anyway, I hope this isn't for a bmw, unless it's for a show, concept car, roaring '80's themed musical sort of thing.

You have a fuse box under the hood as well as in the trunk. The entire car body is a ground point, plastic shields excepted.

Maybe that's a sign from god not to put neon lights on your $50k BMW

Actually, though, the 'fire burning way' ensures a really nice warm glow. Maybe short-lived, but a glow nonetheless.
OP, if your buddy did this on his Merc, there are people saying 'whatever rocks your boat,' but they're thinking what you're picking up here. Your car is better by any measure than 90% of the cars. Be chill about your power and speed and the ladies will respect you. You have a luxurious sport saloon; don't cheapen it like those classless Merc guys. I'll pay you $2 not to do this...and will start a gofundme to see what we can raise for you not to do this thing. Think of the baby bmws, man.

Man, you were so close... I would go with "You worked hard to afford your car, do whatever you want with it that makes you happy."
I wouldn't do what OP wants to do, sure, but I'm totally for him doing it. Add neons, do a wild paint scheme, do some crazy wheels, make it a lowrider, drift car, whatever, just enjoy your car and have fun wrenching. I mean, I could shit on people for having carbon fiber lip spoilers... because you're not driving a race car, and it's not real carbon fiber, and even if it were real carbon fiber, you don't need the weight savings. There can be so much gatekeeping here, which makes things boring as hell. It's the same old stuff every time.
Not hating on anyone that does any of those things, but what's the point of customization, customization, if we're all just going to do it the same? Do what you like, and realize that what you like isn't necessarily what others like. I thought this was a community of enthusiasts, not nannies. |

Can you imagine people on these boards in the R&D department of BMW in the 80s? Some guy's like, "What if we make a crazy fast 5 series? We can call it an M5." And they'd all go, "Nooooo, it's a FULL SIZE LUXURY SEDAN, not a SPORTS CAR! You're ruining BMW!" |
