Pre-reg X3 M40i - Now under £40K

If you are looking for one this black X3 looks to be good value with a £15,850 "discount."

If they can do a similar level of discount on a pre-reg M340 Touring in a few months time I'll be in!

I'm thinking along very similar lines - this discounting bodes well...

I'm not too familiar with X3 M40 spec, but to get an idea of discounting level, it looks to me that the only options on that car are adaptive suspension and M Sport Plus pack. Anyone know if that's right?

I think on the X3 M40 Adaptive Suspension comes as part of the M-Sport Plus Pack (so in effect I think the car in question has only one optional extra fitted?).

However, even if that's the case the list price of the vehicle linked by the OP is around £56k in which case the advertised price represents a discount of around 28% (and that's pretty impressive given I believe the model in question hasn't been on sale for much more than a year). As I say, I can only hope similar deals are available on the G21 M340 at some stage next year!

That assumes a) you need finance to buy the car and b) even if you do you're unable to find a better finance deal (or indeed negotiate a better one with BMW). Neither of those are necessarily true and (IMHO) a discount of pushing 30% for a pre-reg car - and what is still a relatively new model - is a very good deal!

That's nothing I was eyeing up a demo 740i (LCI) that was £85,000 list up for £47,000 with 5.9% APR.

I had to force myself not to do it.

We can but pray! With the m340 having quite a good spec as standard I personally wouldn't need to add too much to it.
I already have the current brochures and am virtually speccing one..

Adaptive is part of the Plus pack.

The M40s are pretty well equipped, not much need to spend any more. Just depends how important a sunroof, adaptive headlights and adaptive cruise etc are to you.

Out of that lot, just Adaptive lights are important to me, but it looks like they are standard on the M40 models.

I would want a few bits beyond M Sport Plus though - heated wheel, parking assistant plus, perhaps towbar (for bikes)... and then there is kit which is nice but non essential including better leather, sunroof...

Some of the 7 Series prices are remarkable.

Just spotted this Feb 19 740d for £29.5k https://usedcars.bmw.co.uk/vehicle/2...0-20f0aadab7dd

It's not an M Sport, but it has a decent spec and would make a fantastic motorway barge...

Do these incur the high>£40k list price annual road tax for 5 years?

Yes- the list is a long way over £40k so you have a luxury car charge for 5 years. It's pretty hard to avoid these days, particularly with BMW's fantasy list prices.

The other glaring omissions from the standard spec for me were folding mirrors, speed limit display, front collision warning, comfort access, surround view cameras & adjustable lumbar support, all of which came as standard on my wife's 3 year old Qashqai 1.2!!

Apart from possibly lumbar support, not one of those things is essential to me.

Just examples of manufacturers piling on the spec to charge more. I'd rather have a cheaper more basic car where I can pick and choose what's important to me.

Well, nothing is essential, but they’re all options that make your life easier/safer, and if they’re standard on a cheap little Nissan then they should be on a £50k car really.

I select 2016 & (early) 17 on Auotrader, Petrol, £30-40k, sub 5sec to 60 estates. To avoid the luxury tax! A few AMG C43s 4matics come up - any good?

You'd be astounded how good they are at serious pace on a flowing A road as well, so stable, you can punt them down a b road at some speed as well.

Best car they make, utter bargains I couldn't have a normal BMW again.

I dont get this massive issue with £310 a year when you are paying nearly double that per month for the car but each to their own I guess....

I have driven a G11 730d and know that they are surprisingly good machines.

At £29.5k, even my well-honed resistance to impulse purchases wasn't enough, so I phoned them to buy it. Only to be told that it was a typo and would I still like it at £39.5k

Perhaps not such a bad thing - when I had a loan G31 520d, my other half kept on about how huge it was. I didn't dare mention that this one was even bigger. I might have had to get it debadged and pretend it was a 5 Series
