new engine needed 1 month out of warranty. what's fair
Bought a new Bmw x1 in 2016. Have the usual 4 year 50k warranty. Current miles at 49k but am 1 month past my 4 year time. Did all the routine check ups during the 4 year time at the Bmw dealership.
Car at dealership now and told needs engine replacement! 1 month past warranty by time not by miles. Contacted Bmw North America and first told I would be responsible for 5% of cost given such unusual problem and so close to warranty date. But now dealership and Bmw north america saying that since cost to replace engine is near 14k I am responsible for 25% of the cost, about 5k. They say do 5% if cost under $10,000. What is fair? Just because over $10000 repair cost they increase my percentage from 5% to 25%. Makes no sense. They could say 25% for anything over $10000 cost. But bad rep for them to have a 4 year 1 month old car that needs an entire new engine. What you recommend I do and try and negotiate for? Thanks for input |

Well yeah it doesn't make sense to go from 5% to 25% but in reality they don't have to do anything.
My question is what is the cause of failure? Is it something you did, or just a defective motor? I would try to negotiate for 10%, small price to pay for such a huge job and the fact you'll have a new engine. Unfortunate situation.

cylinder 1 messed up. can't keep pressure ect. Dealer tried all fixes but they say cylinder 1 not working and is messing with cylinder 2 and 3. I'm not a mechanic, but they are saying only fix is to replace the engine.
