Tablet
Want to get my mum (65+) a tablet for Christmas, will be used just for basic browsing. Needs to be a fairly decent size so she can read it properly and easy to use!.
She's got an android phone, so an android based one would be ok as that's consistent with what she's using right now, or even Windows as she has a PC. Not that interested in apple, as that's another OS she has to adapt to. Any recommendations? |

I got a hudl for the kids to use. But they now use the iPads and I'm left with hudl.
It's ok for basic web browsing and email. But would be a different operating system. For the price is it ok. I bought my dad an iPad a while ago and I think he uses it as a tray for his coffee!!!!! |

Remember this can be a slippery slope.
Personally I would go Ipad with Logitech keyboard or Surface 3 with keyboard. I know you say learning another OS, however all are pretty intuitive. The worst thing to do is get a slow tablet or small screen (eye sight etc). I use my IPad for work (globally) and lesuire, protect it with an Otterbox. If going Android, get a Nexus, stick to a google product not the reskinned versions. |

For that age I'd suggest this lovely stuff from the Duchy of Cornwall... They do lots if don't deferent flavours, including a nice chocolatey ones and some very creamy ones. I prefer fudge myself.

Honestly for ease of use and longevity, I would say an iPad.

Thanks for all the comments.
Apple...i may just give her one of the 2 ipad 2s we have at home, and then get myself a new one (and get my mum a different Christmas present)...not sure however i agree about longevity. the ipad 2s we have are next to useless as we stupidly updated the iOS and they now crawl at a snail's pace... Agree that screen size is main thing, and i think 7" google nexus is too small. Galaxy Tab 4 looks pretty decent, good screen size and seems good enough for what she will use it for. |

that is where our older stuff migrates to. No doubt in 5 years I will have one in the garage. |

What about a Samsung Chromebook or HP Stream ? Both with 11.6 inch screens.

The industry works in a funny way, for example you or I can by these cheaper from the retailers than my system cost price, we do all Xbox consoles as well and it's cheaper for me to buy one from Amazon when they have a deal than get one out of the warehouse.
I'll get the cost price on that tablet tomorrow we might have more room on our own brand.
