RP vs. Exchange Injectors?

Hello - Apologies for the long post.

Backstory - 2015 328d here. 57k miles. Last week my CEL came on and I took it to my local indie shop. They said it was two bad fuel injectors and recommended replacing all four. The cost would be $2,000.

Called BMW USA and they said they're covered. So drove to my local dealership on 3 cylinder. I expressed I'd like to have the other two swapped out and would pay the difference.

Today BMW tells me they'll replace the two, but the other two alone would be $2,000. The part number they gave me was an Exchange Injector while the indie shop gave me the RP Injector.

Question - What is the difference? Which shop is correct? Should I work harder to get the other two swapped out?

Your fuel injectors are covered for 7yrs/70k mi (WA is a CARB state). Why would you pay to replace the non-problematic ones now?

The RP injectors are some $200 a piece and fairly easy to change... neither shop should cost you $2000, especially if they're covered.

As long as they're coming from BMW, it wouldn't matter which one you choose. Obviously choose the cheaper one if you're paying.

Thanks everyone. I'm not paying for the two being replaced. They are 100% covered and ordering the more expensive Exchange Injector.

I was interested in covering the cost to have the other two replaced while BMW was in there working on the car. However, at $500 a pop online, and $750 at the dealership, I'll just wait and hope those two stay healthy.

Thank you!
