440i Dyno - BM3 Stage 1
Very happy with the gains I flashed to stock and drove to the shop to allow the car to adapt. Did 2 pulls. Then I flashed the stage 1 map and they began running it through the gears to let the car adapt. Then we did 3 pulls. The car kept making more power so I may have hit 400whp on another run, but they're just glory numbers. At the end of the day, I love how the car drives so numbers are not a priority.
Also, sorry the sound is so ear-piercing. A huge reason why I'm not upgrading my intake is because the stock box is already really loud. Numbers Stock Dyno #1: 335whp/363wtq Stock Dyno #2: 337whp/361wtq Stage 1 Dyno #1:385whp/437wtq (+14%/+20%) Stage 1 Dyno #2:396whp/435wtq (+17%/+19%) Stage 1 Dyno #3:398whp/445wtq (+18%/+22%)

How did the car make 335whp when it's rated at 320hp at the crank?
We know some car/engines can dyno higher than the manufacturer official numbers, but that's pretty crazy.

That's why I wanted to dyno stock first, to get a realistic understanding of the gains since I assumed it was underrated. With just the stage 1 dyno, people could claim I gained over 100whp with the tune. But clearly that's not the case. Also keep in mind my car is a 6-speed manual transmission and RWD on lightweight 18" forged wheels, so I've minimized the drivetrain losses on my setup. I'd probably dyno lower with stock 19" wheels and an 8speed auto. Also these are dynojet numbers, and a mustang dyno would typically read lower as well. Basically a lot of things have an effect. Just focus on the delta. |

Also another benefit of the tune that's not in the pictured dyno:
OEM AFRs taper to around 14 at redline. Very unsafe in my opinion, but I seem to be in the minority on that one. Regardless, BM3 tune runs lower in the 13s and high 12s at redline. Much safer and protects your components while the increase boost is making more heat. I feel more comfortable beating on the car knowing that. |

I read something a while ago where some people who throw their car on the dyno and it would make less than what they stated (for example, 300 crank hp and it only made 200whp so less than crank) and they sued for false advertising and not getting what they stated for power.

I don’t necessarily think they do it to avoid lawsuits. Their N/A engines have always been rated true to power.
I do remember Ford being sued in ‘99 when the Mustang Cobra wasn’t making its rated 320 BHP.

I believe it's more about bragging rights. Kind of like the JDM gentlemen's agreement back in the 90s. You know your car is more capable, but you nerf the numbers so it's performance comes off as more impressive. Who wouldn't want to say they make 300hp cars that keep up with 350+ cars from other manufacturers.
And tuned numbers show just how much they leave on the table. Just like porsche and audi, they hold back on hp potential so it doesn't affect sales of top tier models. |

400 wheel from a simple stage one flash and no hardware is impressive. Shows how far BMW has come in the 13 years since the N54 debuted.

Not 500 wheel. A basic Stage 2 93 with catless DP will make around 425-430. E30 will make maybe another 20 and with meth, maybe 475-480.

Nice numbers, so stage 1 is almost the same as MPPSK.
What octane were we using during those runs ? Quote:

MPPSK isn't going to have these gains. Maybe half. And I was using Shell 93 VPower.
