Fuel filters remove particulates from the fuel, not the hydrocarbons that eventually clog injectors. Injector cleaners remove those deposits, not particulates.

The filter is incorporated into the fuel sender/pickup/pump (LPFP) in the gas tank.

This would have bothered me in the past, but my last car, a 2004 Jeep Wrangler, also did not come from the factory with an in line fuel filter. Just the pick up screen that is part of the fuel pump assembly. I put nearly 260,000 miles on that thing; I never had to replace the fuel pump, or any components of the fuel injection system. All I did was run top-tier gas like Shell or Chevron ( mostly Chevron) and the occasional bottle of Techron. As long as you are using a good quality gasoline, they do a pretty good job of filtering out the crud before it gets to the pump. If we are talking Arco or Sinclair gas, I would be more concerned because they should be paying you to put their gas in your car. Although, technically speaking, they are also rated as top-tier gasolines, so I suspect it doesn’t take too much to be awarded that status. But I digress.

They just have to pay the licensing fee.
I suspect that the lack of an inline filter has to do with the high pressure delivery fuel pump required with direct injection engines.

Personally running 1 bottle of Techron during the last fuel up before oil change (every 5k miles).

That and always top tier fuel.

Hopefully that will keep the system clean and running optimally well into 200k miles.

71k and counting...

I believe this practice started as a precaution to not contaminate fresh oil with the fuel/techron mixture but to be honest, DI could make this null and void... not positive tho. Its just always been my practice so I keep going with it.

I am under the impression that a techron should be used before an oil change as well. I guess the carbon deposit removed from the engine falls into the oil, and you don't want chucks when you lubricate the engine component?

But then there is oil filter and chevron gas already has techron in there (although I only use shell ). So it is more of a precaution and making sure the fresh oil is free from any possible contamination.

is this the techron cleaner you guys are talking about? looks like its half off on amazon, I might just stock up on a few bottles Chevron Techron Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner - 20 oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00092893E..._wXtJCb58ERKQZ

The deposits are removed from the fuel injectors. There's no direct route between them and the crankcase. The only reason I can think of for adding injector cleaner at the same time as an oil change is that there's no light on the dash to remind you that you're due to clean the injectors.

Thank you for pointing this out.

Correct me if I am wrong, since N55 uses direction injection, the injectors are unlikely to spray the fuel onto the intake valves. That may defeat another benefit of Techron, cleaning the top of the intake valves. And for this reason, we do walnut blasting to clean them?

Correct. You can also use this to clean intake valves:
https://www.amazon.com/CRC-05319-Int.../dp/B00PHNQKR2

It uses the same active ingredient as Techron (and most injector cleaners) in a much higher concentration. If you use this yearly your valves may never get bad enough to need blasting. Another option is to add an oil catch can, which prevents oil from the crankcase from getting to the intake manifold and valves via the PCV, so they don't get carbon crusted to begin with.

The application of the valve cleaner is similar to seafoam. Speaking of that, seafoam may be an alternative if it is sprayed into the throttle body.

I may actually look into the oil catch can. I will be changing my charge pipe next week; if there is too much oil in the tube, I should probably order one...

I would on;y use it every 10,000 kilos or so ,, also used STP Ultra Fuel System Cleaner , which is so good, however since last time I've used it i have a small hesitance in idle,, want to hook it up to a diagnostic tool to see if actualy there is sth or I am dreaming

You can do way better than the BMW Additive. Try some of the Liqui Moly additives.

https://egypt.souq.com/eg-en/%D9%84%...n=2&page=1

The Benzin one is good for poor quality fuel. Use it whenever you want. One can to treat 60 litres of fuel. You use one can for a tank. It will wear off after the second or third tank. Don't let the tank run below 1/4 to keep the additive going.

Ceratec is good for protecting the engine.

I wouldn't buy this simply because the add is misleading. It shows a picture of the valves dirty as hell then basically the back of the valve being brand new. Btw if I'm wrong most if not all the bmw engines over the last how many years have been direct injection and the fuel spray never hits the back of the valves......
