i have chosen to drive estates for years as they suit my lifestyle much better than saloons.

I think the saloons look unfinished to me but I understand that not everyone has needs the same as me.

I just hope with the next one they dont make it too small, as its ideal for me on my own during the week then stuffed during the weekends with kids and all the gear that goes with them!

Hmmm - X3 would be my choice. In some ways, I do think the F31 looks better, in other ways not better than the F30.

In any case, better than the G31 which looks like it's suited to the horsey-set taking their nags out for a trot.

G31 loaded and ready to take the family across France at pace and in comfort. No horses in sight as I think they're only good for dog food and glue.

With pics now that I remember

The day before my 330d went back (admittedly not best back drop lol)

And it's not so pretty replacement, which strangely has more useable bootspace.

Seconded, I genuinely couldn't believe how big the boot was on that thing when I first saw it in Farnborough

Anywho, I've always preferred estates, they seem to have an arse that's not only nicer finished/designed, but they're much more useful too. Mine's been at the dealer for the last week and I had a 420D GC as a loaner. Nice car, but nowhere near as practical as my touring (and IMO, not as good looking either).

You must be a tall person if you find the boot lid gets in the way on a touring! In all fairness Im the opposite, as a cyclist and occasional fisherman, the shape and length of the touring boot suits my needs.
Never said that the touring boot was not bigger and easier to use. Just that the gc is a big improvement over the saloon, and far far prettier than the f31. Etto as they say.

I agree i have loved the look of an estate for years not starting with a B8 S4 and then onto my F31. I am a practical man and never liked the idea of a saloon because of the small boot opening.

Touring is, what Touring does!

Also for day to day use saves having a saloon and a small van.

Not for the first time, you are presenting a false dichotomy here. You don't need to drive like a twat to find it wanting, any normal undulating B road at legal speeds will expose the weaknesses of the suspension.

One thing I do miss from the F31 is the split-tailgate - brilliant for dogs.

I was wondering if anyone would notice... yes, I'd like my interior to look like that. It's my mate's M6 GC.

Mine's a bit ordinary in comparison.

Realistically my 330D S Drive is as close as I can get to M3 ownership and still have some practicality - dog, bikes, Mrs etc. We love touring the UK and Europe so its the perfect compromise for me.

My next car will probably be a G31 540i

Well said that man!
I could not agree more …… & I think it is more than the remaining 5% that are dissatisfied with the standard suspension offering, judging by everyone on this forum.

You do not need to be driving fast or even take corners quickly before you realise how compromised the handling is.

This is especially true coming from an E91 Msport to the F31 xdrive.

Simply going right at round about at end of road showed that.

There is no way that Lorcan could have paid off his new Yacht so fast if this was not the case.

It's a brilliant car that gets 3 out of 5 due to the xdrive suspension setup.
The Sdrive gets 4 out of 5 'cos it's missing that xdriveness
