Winter shoes are on

Never bothered with winters before, but with a big heavy X5 it seemed daft not to.

After some research I went for Yokohama BluEarth V905s. I ordered from Oponeo which was a complete shambles of lost parcels, woeful administration, and complete rudeness. I would strongly advise against using them. I wouldn't order from them again even if they had a 99% off sale.

Anyway back to happy. I'm strangely excited about having winters. They are non RFT so feel way more comfortable.

My local garage did the swap over and are storing my summers for 5 quid per month. So pleased I asked them.

EDIT: Rims aren't curbed, just tyre gunk.

Good timing. Mine aren't going on until next Thursday, and there's snow forecast for the North this weekend...

You'll be amazed how much traction you'll get now in the snow, so much so, you'll be looking for the most difficult roads to drive on !!

I had problems with Oponeo this time too, nearly a week after I ordered they rang me to say sorry they’d forgotten to process my order! Then waited another 5 days to actually receive the tyres!

I wasn’t really bothered as I was in no hurry to get them, but still a very poor show when you’re spending over £600 with them!

I got my Winters from Oponeo, I must have got lucky as it all went OK, took about 3 days and they got shipped from Belgium. No UK Vendors had the latest Conti Winters I wanted, TS860S

Did ring Cambskill but gave up after some prick told me they'd invalidate my warranty

I assume also that they'll be better for general 'off-roading'. I've done a bit of dicking about in fields with it, but am under no illusion in terms of what it's built to do.

They are classed as Mud & Snow rating so yes they should be a lot better off road

Yeah Oponeo aren't the best for customer service

Camskill I've always found to be excellent

My experience was terrible. It goes on a bit, but in summary:

Ordered 4 tyres.
Received confirmation of 2 separate orders (fine, ok)
Received several confirmations of shipping
None progressed
Called and was promised a call back (didn't happen)
Called and was promised a call back (didn't happen)
Called and was promised a call back (didn't happen)
1 tyre turned up
Called and was promised a call back (didn't happen)
3 replacement tyres were ordered
1 more turned up
Called and was promised a call back (didn't happen)
4 more tyres then landed at my garage
Called and was told it was all my fault
They didn't know why either, but it was my fault
Sent an invoice for two additional tyres that I hadn't asked for
Told it was my fault
Called back and was told extra tyres would be collected
Told it was my fault
They weren't picked up.

Wow that is shocking! At least the woman that rang me was apologetic and they fixed the error first time.

I should have used camskill though, I found out after I ordered that they were actually a few pounds cheaper and they are based in the UK!

Yep, I think they're not as UK based as they like to make out - every single person I spoke to was Polish. Obviously not an issue, but perhaps they're quoting their 'fast free delivery' when in actual fact it will always take longer to ship from Europe.

Never again. I now have two spare tyres, if they don't pick them up then not much I can do about it. I have reported it to my bank and said no transactions to them should be put through, only the original transaction that I actually made. The point being that I shouldn't have to even have that conversation.

I get my tyres from my local BMW dealer these days they are always the same price as mytyres or Oponeo give or take a fiver and a lot less hassle.

I haven't put a set of winters on the 7 yet so expect a harsh winter.

Not really! She's a bit long at 5.1 metres, but has a good turn of pace up to 60mph and confuses me with all the features but I'm getting there, I'm going to do a review post as I think it's not a usual choice of car on here or for me after 5 M cars.

I did a 400 mile trip over the last two days and it's quite the car to do long runs in.

So what made you choose the 7 over the 5?

Because the 7 is bigger, heavier and more expensive? I think of it more as a car to be driven in, than one to drive yourself.
