You can register your battery with Carly for BMW (IOS or Android) and their Bluetooth OBD-II adapter or you can take it to your dealership and let them do it. If you don't register the new battery, the Intelligent Charging System will over-charge it since it will assume you still have the older and weaker battery.

I had a new battery installed by Batteries Plus this past summer and the 2 people working there had never registered a battery before so after watching them struggle with it I had a feeling they didn't do it correctly. I was getting the discharging battery error all this past week when it was below zero (I'm in WI) but now since it's above 5 it went away. I did some research and what I found is that the default battery level for the discharging error is when the battery is at 85% capacity so I figured that the low temp was responsible for bringing down my battery capacity and now since it warmed up a bit it appears to be the case.

The error i was getting was that It is discharging while stopped.
Now i get a message saying Battery is discharged.
I also noticed that the error goes away when it gets less colder outside.
Have you registered it yet?

I looked that up before.
Its seems like i have to buy the app and THEIR adapter which would come out more than $100.
Not sure why i can't use different BT adapter that i already have -_-
i doubt dealer will register my "aftermarket" battery from autozone.

ENET cable used with E-sys can also be used with ISTA+.

This is a case where one plus one absolutely equals two. The issue isn't the registration, although if you have a new battery you must register it. The issue is the cold weather. How that affects the battery, and how to address the problem, is the subject of more than a few open threads.

Sorry for reviving an old thread but I am going to be buying a new battery tomorrow. Does anyone know if it would be possible to register using BimmerCode and Vgate BT OBD adapter? Or do I have to purchase BimmerLink from the iOS store as well? Thanks!

Bimmercode will code the battery type and capacity but it won't resister a new battery. Bimmerlink will.
