Do I have a Tech Zitrone?! (Lemon)
So.. she's 20 months old but this issue is happening more and more often.
My Nav system drifts and shows me WAY off course. The first time I had an issue with the IDrive/Navi was 10 hours after picking up the car in Munich (Sept '17). Thing locked up on me.. Was able to find a dealership at 1700 on a Friday and they did a 'soft' reset of the system to get it working. They "thought" that the problem was probably the fact that the European Maps were installed on a USB stick and maybe it go bumped. Ok.. Get the car back into NY/NJ in Oct '17 and since then, I've had NUMEROUS times where the Nav goes crazy. And when it does, it messes up the Heads Up display info too. At least 3 times, the entire IDrive system has shut down and rebooted itself. So far, the car has gone back to the dealership at least 4 times for this issue. Once they found no issues. Once they reloaded the software. Last time they replaced the head unit. Also think they may have replaced a small module or done a software update too.. Have already spoken to a Lawyer about the Lemon Law (in NJ) but something I heard bugged me... getting a refund but giving the car back. This was a European Delivery, Birthday gift and did 2 weeks in Germany with her, to include 3 laps on the Ring. The car has meaning to me.... Any suggestions? Motch Thanks |

Sounds like it could be the HU but could also be an antenna issue. If indeed it was just the antenna, this does not account for your reboots. If another reset doesn't do it, I would have a local dealer check it out one more time and preferably a different one. Some are better than others and please for the love of God, stay out of PA at all costs! JK, you're probably one of the good Jersey drivers too

If they could fix it, you wouldn’t have a claim. http://www.njconsumeraffairs.gov/New...f-Brochure.pdf Last edited by IK6SPEED; 06-01-2018 at 12:07 AM.. |

Guess I was thinking I could get it repaired CORRECTLY and maybe get the cost of the option. I paid $2750 for the technology option but if it doesn't work as advertised... Today I needed my nav and of course it didn't work. Then later on, when I was done driving home it worked. Is what it is.. car is going back to the dealership next week. Hoping for the best, sooner or later! Motch |

Still doing it...
Went to another dealership today to get their opinion. Next thing will be the antenna. Yesterday it started out with the car being over a mile away from it's actual position when I first got into her. For the next 20 mins, kept getting bad info on the navi screen. Then, all of a sudden.. it worked. Pain when you actually need you navi to give you info. Motch |

I have talked to them about this issue, and about the NJ Lemon Law. Last chance. Been told that it may be an antenna problem, which is kinda funny as my original BMW had a similar issue (2009) and they finally swapped out the antenna, which did fix the problem! But am being told that if it is an antenna problem that it's a big deal since my car is a convertible. Either way, need this issue resolved. When you're house shopping and the Navi is basically useless due to these issue's.. it sucks. Motch |

The intermittent nature of the problem plus unexpected reboot cycles could point to a short in the wiring harness to the head unit.
Ask the dealer to replace all wiring to and from the head unit. But call BMW NA and open a case. This is a labor intensive procedure. The dealer will ask for authorization first. |
