Anyone getting the ActiveHybrid 3?
Anyone have one on order, waiting for a production number, or probably going to get one?
Interested to see if anyone else on here besides me will have one. |

Judging by the bitching, whining and chest bashing we've had about the tree-hugging and terribly inconvenient start-stop system, I can't see many takers for an active hybrid. At least not your side of the pond
Although, as a fan of ASS, Id still never buy a hybrid because they're a scurge on society with their lithium batteries, high capital cost and poor fuel economy compared to a quality diesel engine. Oh, and they give off a pious odour ...

I believe he's saying that if people don't like the already included gas saving features on the F30s that have been released, they're probably not going to care about other ones that come with a price tag in the thousands.

I love the Hybrid because it's faster Although it's proven time and time again that hybrids cause more environmental problems than they solve, I would still buy one because it's uber fast

I think the problem with lack of interest for the AH3 is that people haven't read enough about it's benefits and haven't used their imagination to see how it would benefit them in daily life. Twice a day, every day, I go pick up food to eat and I only drive about a mile away from my house. With the AH3, I don't even have to start the engine and can do it on electric power only since it will go 2.5 miles and up to 45MPH on electric only. It also gets 40MPG Hwy or better. AND it goes 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. And it has the new professional nav system that doesn't come out on the 328 and 335 until Nov production. And because of its big battery pack, you can engage the air conditioning to turn on and cool down the car from your iPhone wherever you are before you get back to your car. Imagine eating a meal on a hot day or spending the day at a theme park and you can precondition your car so it's ice cold inside before you even get back to it. And it's electric motor provides instantaneous torque (doesn't need to spool up like a gas engine), increasing response time from the time you step on the pedal until you feel something. And that electric motor adds 150 ft. lbs. of torque just by itself. Need I go on with more benefits?... |

Heavier, more stuff to go wrong out of warranty, potentially non linear brake feel, higher toxic chemical content, less agile, more expensive. It has it's advantages, but most of them cater to the luxury set more than the sporty set and seem to make more sense on the 5 than the 3, but it's cool that at least one person is excited about it.

Agreed - would rather have the bump to a 535i than blowing another 7-10k on a first-year bmw hybrid (you gotta be nuts to do this imo!)

I thought it was slightly slower..... the extra power is more than offset by the additional weight compared to a 335i.

OP, if you're excited about it, then buy it. You'll have something unique compared the rest of us conventional petrol-driving Neanderthals. The cost differential in absolute terms might not be that much of an impediment at this price point, but the COST/BENEFIT ratio just doesn't make sense. It would take eons to recoup the cost compared to an N20-equipped car and the true performance enthusiast will either buy the N55 or wait for the allegedly lighter and faster F82. To me, the AH 3 is a marketing ploy to fill an insanely small corner of the buying public. It'll capture the hearts of: 1) The techies who need bleeding-edge gadgetry, 2) The uninformed buyers who get sold a good story by their CA, and 3) The luxury buyers who feel compelled to portray themselves as "green". Why else would they put that enormous and gawdawful "Active Hybrid 3" badge on the C-pillar? |

To be honest, I've always wanted a Porsche since I was a little kid. The Porsche Boxster base price is the same as a ActiveHybrid3 base price, so I'd probably get that. |

I agree on the Porsche... have constantly been eyeing one myself. I can't get past the premium they place on all of the options though. They upcharge for EVERYTHING, down to color logos on the wheels instead of black & white. A $50K Porsche is really more like $85K once you add the best of the options. And their lease deals aren't nearly as good as BMW so the gap widens even further. I think I ran the numbers and a fully spec'd Boxster S was very close to the same lease monthly price on a new M5. |

It's faster than the 328i. BMW is like Porsche. If they're going to make a Hybrid, it has to be an increase in performance when compared to the base model. Otherwise, there's no incentive other than fuel savings, which most buyers are able to see through these days.
