Motor Legal Protection - Worth It?

Getting ready to pick up a 335d next week and shopping around for the best insurance deal (£255 so far). Legal Protection adds £20 - £30 per year but doesn't seem to offer much for the money. For example, Direct Line says it covers compensation for legal injury, loss of earnings and repair costs if not fully comprehensive. The second two items don't apply to me and there are plenty of claims companies who do the legal injury stuff for free.

Just wondering what the view of the forum is?

The advantage of legal protection is you get from day one free legal assistance if required.
It just makes things move quicker etc.
Used it in past and was good.
I get it as standard with my current insurance.

Looking around online there seems to be a few companies offering the same sort of legal cover for half or less than the big insurance companies.

e.g. http://www.driverguardian.co.uk/ - £12.50 for Motor Legal Plus Policy or
http://www.memonline.co.uk/ - £6.99 for their Silver Plan.

Anyone used one of these companies or similar?

Missed that one, £255 seems very low fully comp for. 320 never mind a 335d.

What company is it with?

My cheapest insurances were from Sainsbury Bank, Privilege, Churchill. Similar prices.

Its with Direct Line and includes protected no claims, legal and car hire. Was expecting a reasonable hike from my previous car (2.0T) but little change. Location, age, occupation and many other factors all influence your premiums but it all seems a bit of a lottery.

Be very careful with legal protection - I think it is a must have, but you want to make sure it's with a respectable company that employs decent solicitors (or allows you to chose your own at a normal hourly rate).

One of the main reasons I think it's a must have is because of the number of uninsured drivers in the UK.

I'm 48, NCB protected, 1 incident which did not have any influence according them....i Don't know. My 335i was about the same for couple of years. The most funny I found was one from as they advertised themselves fastest growing UK insurer- £4500( four thousands)

You have to generate a new quote and pay monthly to get Direct Line cash back. Surprise, surprise - when I generated a new quote from the TCB link it was more expensive than the quote I got going direct to DL's site. When you add in the monthly payment interest as well its just not worth it.

Thanks for the suggestion though - worth trying.
