F30 is really quite impressive
I've got 65k miles and zero problems. My personal experience plus all the post on the thread (17 pages worth), mostly with positive comments about reliability add up to the F30 being a damn nice car.
I know its been dissed by the E90 crowd and the car mags for steering and virtually every other negative thing that could be said about it, but I think its turned out to be one fine automobile and my favorite after driving BMWs for the past 30 years now. My wife picks up her new G05 soon, so my favorite BMW award may switch, but I love my F30 and wouldn't trade it for any previous 3er. Here's to many more trouble-free miles. |

I still remember the comment my indy garage mechanic made after taking my F30 for a test drive: "I love the steering on this car!". I then told him that the E90 owners seem to hate the steering. He scoffed and said that the E90 isn't that good and that the F30 is much improved. That took me a little by surprise but he has worked on numerous BMWs so I reckon he knows what he's talking about.

At 78K on a '14, looks like I qualify as higher mileage... so, aside from maintenance stuff:
- Fuel pump at 25k (recall) - Diff bushing at 55k - iDrive total failure (77k) And that's it. All the failures were warrantied, and all the maintenance was done under a maintenance plan the original owner bought. |

The E46 and E90 may have been more fun to drive. Heck, my '88 528 was a blast to drive even with zero (125) horsepower. But, the F30, properly spec'd is a much more complete family sports sedan. That's my opinion. Other opinons may vary and thats okay and expected. |

sygazelle Good to know! This is my first BMW so I don't have a prior-BMW-owner lens to look through, but I love the ride, handling, and reliability of this thing even without DHP or Shockware. Almost at 90k miles with no issues to report!

I cant comprehend this. Aside from the general lack of steering feel in the F30, I think my biggest complaint with the steering is that, because it is soooo light, when driving through corners and you encounter anything less that smooth pavement, the bumps naturally cause your hands to move while holding the wheel. And that leads to the steering wheel easily moving, which takes the car out of its line. Its partly why the car feels like its so easily getting tossed around. The stiffer E90 steering helped keep the steering wheel stationary in these instances and allowed the car to feel like it was on rails going through a turn. Even on smooth pavement, its too easy to move the wheel and toss the F30 around. If you have shaky hands after two cups of your morning coffee, you're drive to work will be unpleasant.

435i Convertible N55 6-Cylinder Auto Transmission (Sportline) 41,000 Issues: “Weepage” around oil filter housing and oil drain pain will require in-warranty replacement. Right rear turn/brake signal harness had to be replaced — GND pin burnt. This is definitely a design defect; the connector contact is too small and it will overheat and burn. I fixed by soldering in my own ground lead, but dealership replaced the whole assembly under warranty. I bought as CPO and right front wheel has very small bend which causes very inconvenient slow leak. I really hate this. The driver side door handle squeaks. I’m going to get this replaced. Needed windshield replaced from a stone chip. This windshield seems very fragile. XM Radio reception is terrible. It drops very frequently, even under wide open clear skies. My Toyota has WAY better XM reception. Gas filling sometimes clicks off too early. 8.additional notes: There is no documented maintenance item for lubricating the brakes. This can lead to problems. At 25,000-30,000 miles, it’s a good idea to remove the pads, clean them, and relubricate the backing plates and the sliding pins. If not, brakes can easily seize and wear out prematurely. |

55000k 340i 2nd time got a low coolant warning which I thought was strange because I flush the system at 45k. Technician thought it was due to the extreme cold as of late which didn't make much sense to me but w/e
Other odd behavior perhaps due to below freezing as of late, passager side minor refuse to fold due to freezing and pulling door handle to unlock and get out failed had to use unlock button on center console to open the door. |

Bmw had the replacement at 1700. Easycare did a refurbished part instead of new ($400) plus labor at BMW ($650) so it was $1050.
That includes whatever coding, which I'm told was 2 hours of labor. |

Hey guys, my rear suspension/control arms (I haven't located exactly where), just started to make 'old squeaky bed’ noises.
I must say that I live in a salt/sand/lots of snow+rain/warm and cold environment. Quebec in eastern Canada This just started yesterday. I drive a 2017 340i xdrive AT with 30k kms or 18k miles. I had this issue with my 2011 328xdrive, and it turned out to be the rear swing arm bushings. But the car had 3 times the mileage. Thanks for your input! TO BE QUICK AND TO THE POINT THIS CAR IS AMAZING. I HAVE A 2013 320I THAT IVE OWNED SINCE 2015. I BOUGHT THE CAR WITH 32K AND SINCE THEN THE ONLY ISSUE IVE HAD WAS BECAUSE I MIXED UP SOME COOLANT WHICH MAY HAVE BEEN THE CAUSE TO THE THERMO FAILING PREMATURELY, WHICH REPLACING AND BURPING WHEN PRETTY SMOOTHLY. IVE REPLACED BY SPARK PLUGS ABOUT 25K MILES AGO AND IVE BEEN DOING ENGINE OIL CHANGES EVERY 10K AND OIL FILTERS EVERY 5K. PRETTY SOON ILL BE DOING A COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FLUSH.
ILL TELL YOU WHAT THO . I DROVE THIS CAR THIS PAST WEEKEND FROM NC TO CA HAULING A TRAILER WEIGHING JUST UNDER 1,500 LBS AND SHE PULLING IT SMOOTHLY, I WANNA SAY I EVEN GOT ABOUT 23MPG |

My Car:
1.year - 2012 2.model - F30 320d sportline 3.engine - N47D20c 4.transmission - 8 speed auto paddleshift 5.odometer reading - 211000km 6.issues - (out of warrantee) replaced battery and replaced all 4 shocks at about 130 000km 7.fixes - items replaced: sport kidney grill, bumper grill, window bead. These were due to someone that reversed into me while parking. The window bead flew off while opening up the throttle on the open road in Windhoek, Namibia at 210km/h 8.additional notes - car is stock and all oil services done at 15 000 km by a BMW dealer. P.S. why are there so little diesels cars on this thread? Am I the only one that had the battery and shocks replaced? Oh yes I replaced all my tires twice. |

Currently getting an "Increased Battery Discharge" Warning, Dealer says it is the Instrument Cluster, still working on resolving this. They want $2k to replace. Trying to DIY, but having trouble finding a virgin Cluster that will not require coding. Have gotten a "Drive Train Malfunction...Drive Moderately" Warning 2x, Resolved itself both times after the car has sat. Made dealer aware of this, said it might be related to the battery warring. Felt like the car was misfiring while it was happening. I have done normal routine maintenance, oil, spark plugs, filters, all 4 tires etc. Have gotten a funky smell while A/C is on, doesn't always happen, but saw another member is having the same issue Have gotten a "Low Coolant" Warning, just topped it off Just replaced Battery and Brakes as well Have some minor rattling coming from windows while driving |

Ok... 2015 435i M Sport with M sport brakes... Got the car at 50k miles, I have 57k on it now and just got back from BMW dealership and wrangling with extended warranty provider... :\
1. Active cruise control - "out of alignment" I got the "collisiion system" orange alert. Extended warranty company refused to fix because of my Eibach Pro-kit drop, installed TWO WEEKS AGO. They believe this caused the issue. The BMW techs went to bat for me and said, our docs say otherwise. No dice. 2. Front thrust arm bushings - nothing new there. But no warranty coverage there either as it's a wear item... maybe kinda. 3. iDrive Failure - all the functions work except the GPS nav. GPS shows me about 12 miles away. Warranty company WILL cover this. I was going to cancel all the work and warranty, but the BMW dealer suggested I keep it and fix the NAV as that's a couple thousand and pays for the extended warranty once over. The ACC I'm going to try to fix myself. BMW tech says it's a solid state item and aligned using a computer and not mechanically. So *maybe* one day someone on this forum will post a fix. Either way, I'm sitting here not really enjoying my 435i experience... (Missing my E36 M3, which was EASY to fix.) |

My 2015 435 x drive is just about out of warranty next week with 73k KM and all the service records I have showed me the car never had any issues aside a O2 sensor fail at 25k.
And I've recently took it in to get the tensioner and serp belt replaced as the tensioner was bouncing to much. I've been back and forth with the idea of extending warranty as the car seems solid looking at all the records. I finally broke down and got a 3 years extension through BMW Canada platinum coverage for 4100$ CDN My thought process was "it's awesome that there were barely any issues up to now, but what happens from now on" hope I made the right decision I drive maybe 15/20k km a year so it was a very hard decision for me. But all in one I figured I just bought it and have 4.5 years of payments left and running without any warranty scared me more than charging that warranty on my credit card. Odd to hope the warranty repays itself. |
