Tips for collection (in 48 hours!)

My last new car collection (520d, 7 years ago) did not go well. The dealer basically said "Any questions?" and left me to it. I then spotted two runs in the paint that could not be polished out so I rejected the car.

Can you good people help me compile some tips on how to get the most out of my collection, this Tuesday?

What should I reasonably expect to be demonstrated? Set up mobile connection?

Are there any things you did or asked that you are glad you did? Anything you wish you had done or asked?

Do people take a rag to check the oil level?

I'll be checking for swirls/light scratches in the paint and for marks or small damage to the interior trim/leather. If I miss something and only spot it after a day or two, are they likely to say that I did it and therefore it's not covered by warranty?

Also, as it's a 320 mile round trip to my dealer, I can't 'pop' the car back to them for any rectification work. Should my dealer be able to note the issue so I can get it rectified by a local dealer?

Lastly, I've read about checking the leather grain; are there any other F30 issues to look out for?

Don't think I'm not looking forward to it! I want to enjoy it but don't want to miss anything.

It really depends on how much you want to check, and how much you know already. My dealer has always done a full run through of all my functions of the car including pairing phone, iPod setup etc. takes about an hour, and despite me knowing what most things do anyway, really appreciate the time they take.

I always check paint work, panel fit, trim, wheels, tyres. All tools are in boot.

The dealers now have a detailed list of checks to go through at handover. The idea of handing you the keys and letting you go would earn them a slating when you get your feedback survey. I had a very thorough hand over which only finished when I was content.

Don't bring a rag. There is no dipstick anymore, it's all done via Idrive!

Deffo check the paint as the buggers scratched mine whilst washing despite me asking them several times not to touch the paint.

If there's a BMW genius at the dealer then try to make sure they are there to properly explain the tech/set up phones etc.

Get a Detailer in first is my advice. They will check every square inch of the car for you and as a bonus the car will be lovely and clean afterwards!
Definitely worth the money for peace of mind.
My steering wheel had a small cut in it and even then my dealer said that could've happened anywhere from factory to the showroom. They said BMW wouldn't swap it under warranty but they agreed to swap it themselves.

Oh no you really don't want the seal and protect done by the dealer as they will just give it a quick wash(which is bad enough already) and just slap on the sealant without properly claying/clensing the paintwork from contamination and there's a lot on despite new car. If you not comfortable or not done something like this before just take it to professional detailer it will cost you less and will be done a lot better.

No not really.

The surface Saby says will not be prepared for the sealant.

I am also getting mine with seal and protect done ( it's part of price) however will be getting it new car protected with a detailers.

I have enough to do majority waxes etc my self but pays to have the canvas to work on.

No. A Detailer is someone who specialises in just that. They will spend a day or more prepping your car when dealers will spend an hour or two at the most!

You could ask dealer if he allows detailers in and get them to do it there.

Or

Pick up car, drop at detailers bite fingers for a day or so and pick it up from detailers.

So you taking seal n protect plus getting the car detailed..?? Why not to just cancel seal n protect.? Do you reckon the dealer is going to get funny with discount bit?

If i want the car to be detailed then i dont see a point paying £400 for seal and protect..its waste

With my deal a lot is in with the deal, it's harder not having something.

It's free so may as well have it, less paper work lol.
