Passenger side of central vents blows hot air when all is set to 16

Hi,

I have an end of 2012 320d M sport. Recently discovered this issue that when setting both sides to 16 degrees and opening all vents, the central passenger vent will blow out much warmer air compared to the rest of the vents.

Should I be worried and how would I go on about fixing this?

Thanks.

Insia

+1 red is warm (even when ac is set cold) and blue is cooler (even when heat is on)

Works well for that blast of cold or hot air when needed!

Rotate it to blue if you want cold air.

But then why would it blow cold out of one and hot out of another?

The problem is that from the central vents, the left blows hot air, the right cold when the controller is set to the middle and temperatures for both are at 16.

I can't say exactly how your car is working, but in the E9x models the driver's side could have cooler air from the centre air vents by design in similar settings. To do with comfort for the passenger, when the driver controls and runs extreme settings.

What happens when you turn it up or down, does the blending change as you'd expect?

Another factor is timing from changing the settings and cabin temperature. Some reactions can be in conflict at the extreme settings. 16.5C may be completely different, as it is a regulated temperature. 16C is also referenced as 'LOW'.

when I turn both dials up (driver + passenger) for warmer temperature to lets say 22, it sort of balances out and both sides will be warm. The only issue I've seen is when both dials are set to 16, that is when all vents blow chilled air except for the passenger central that will blow warm air.

I've also tried to set the passenger dial to 16 and driver to 28. Driver side then gets very warm and passenger just goes slightly 'cooler' than that which is still warm.

What if both zones are set to Auto, thumbwheel to blue and temperature to 16.5C (or say 18C)? Allow it to stabilise, if no joy, maybe a flap is not closing correctly, or something is obstructing it from closing.

Tried that too and still no luck. It just doesnt make sense for one vent to be warm and for all others to be cold
