The car looks great! New LCI taillights look noticeably nicer! I've just picked up mine about 2 and a bit weeks ago and had decided it's not worth delaying till after April for the potential to have the new lights but may retrofit in the future!

Lovely car Alex, and cool that your son went along too.

The speed limit display is an interesting one - I try to ignore it as not always right (if your sat navy isn't up to date), but I do agree on your point about fleecing more money!

Will look out for you when up in the land of the crooked spire next weekend.

Thanks, he enjoyed the day.

I know that my Audi wasn't always right, as speed limits change, but using it in addition to my own observation, especially on roads I don't know was really useful.

I'll have to get used to not glancing at my sat nav to check all the time. With 6 points on my licence until this time next year, for my only incident in 10 years, I'll probably spend more time at 30 whilst I double check than need be.

Ouch!

I have 3 points for another year, from an annoying VSL camera on the M1, 12 days after I did my speed awareness course!! I think we are all just a momentary lapse in concentration away from another few points. Although I don't have a 440i to tempt me!

Looking great! Mine (with a more modest-sized engine) should be here soon!

Do you have the standard LED headlights? Any news on how well (or badly) they perform?

Very nice Alex. No doubt the darker colours suit the 4 series.

FX reg. Is that Lincoln way?

Looks fantastic Alex! I wasn't initially struck on the 704M wheels, but they really suit the GC.

Great to see your son enjoying the handover too

Yep, that's that right. They did have another prefix that was different as well with a few options, but can't remember what it was.

I had a short drive in the countryside last night that you'll probably be familiar with, up past the Red Lion at Stanage and then down through Holymoorside. Lights seemed perfectly adequate to me and I enjoyed having the high beam assist switching from high beam to dipped when cars were coming past.

Another question, that I hope someone can answer?

Today my car has started dropping the windows down to half way when opening the car, and then going up when closing, instead of just the half inch up and down that is usual.

Is this something that I am doing with the key, or in the settings?

It is weird, because it doesn't do it every time. I'm worried my little boy will stick his arm through when it's going back up. Also, if it was raining heavily it'd be a little annoying.

Sounds like it could be the comfort opening (think it's called?). You can code it for warmer climates where it opens the drivers/all windows on unlock. In the UK it just means your seats get wet.

Also if you press & hold the unlock button it will start to open the windows until you release. That would explain why it doesn't do it every time.

I know if hold the key the windows will come down until you let go, but this is different.

First I unlock the car, the windows don't move at all.

Then I open the door and it drops down to half way, then I get in and close the door and it goes all the way back up.

The 4 series frameless doors normally just drop slightly when you open and then go back up when you close. It's like a hugely exaggerated version of that process.

I can't think of a good reason why anyone would want it to do that?

It's set to comfort access in the idrive.

If you double press the unlock button it drops the windows half way so it aids you getting in the car in tight spaces (put the window all the way down and try it - it works)

To turn it off - just go in the idrive and turn off comfort access if you don't want it.

By the way - it has nothing to do wit the keyless entry "Comfort Access"

Hope that helps

Thanks for that, now I know I'll just make sure I click the unlock once.

Sure I'll have some more stupid questions with this being my first BMW.

Dropping the window half way is REALLY useful when parked in tight spaces (which seems to be everywhere these days). Because the doors / windows really taper into the body (rather than being really flat), it makes getting into the car much easier and i say that as a pretty fit and slim person.

There is a safety feature on the window, so you son would not be unduly hurt if the window was to come up and he put his hand in it....
