Stock type R 0-60 is 5.2, quater mile at 13.6 sec @ 104.7 mph
Stick 340i 0-60 is 5.1, quatermile at 13.6 sec @ 105.3 mph

Would be close. 50k bmw could get dropped by a 35k Honda lol

Both cars are worth the money. The BMW has more luxury appointments. The Civic is more of a track focused car. If you think straight line performance should dictate price, then you paid way too much for your car.

Rather than simply looking at acceleration numbers, I think a comparison of track times would be a better measure because things like suspension, braking, and drivetrain would come into play.

I think simply asking "stock" 340i isn't a good way to go either. BMW has too many options. Do you go AWD or RWD? Track Handling Package with the bigger brakes? Adaptive suspension or 704? Runflat or non-runflat tires?

To make it the closest comparison I'd probably go RWD M Sport with the 704 suspension and non-runflat tires. All IMHO of course.

It's almost guaranteed that the Type R could beat a 340i on the track, regardless of options. It is a seriously fast car on the track. The only thing it is seemingly hindered by its FWD platform is straight line acceleration which is still pretty fast for what it is (0-60/4.9s).

Agreed. Drag racing is just ONE aspect of racing. A true test of performance is a full road course. Having said that, the Type R is purpose built a compact sports car. The 340i is a midsize luxury sports sedan. The Type R is lighter and handles better. The 340i would need all the upgrade you mentioned to even compete.

It'll come down to tires and luck... and driver if they're both manual. If you have stock all season RFTs and your buddy's running stock SUMMER tires, then he'll have the edge.

340i has the better engine and wins on the straightaways but the Type R beats the heavier 340i in the corners assuming the driver knows how to race FWD. Type R would win in the end.

I don't think anyone wins here. This honestly doesn't sound like an exciting drag. I think an autocross would be way more fun.

If we talk drag, both cars on Cup 2's and 340i out-drags the civic. The civic takes the autocross.

Never knew those Type R's were that quick. They are very unattractive.

Even so, gotta admit it's helluva package for its price! The biggest reason I'd never get one isn't actually the looks but because it's FWD.

I don't know the Type R driver but I used to compete against the guy in the M3 and he definitely knows how to drive. Those are the combined times for the two courses run during nationals and one of the courses favored the BMW. The course that challenged both had the Type R at 62.918 and the M3 at 62.151. If you look at overall results based on Index the M3 driver came in 21st and the Type R driver 675th place.
This is a great comparison. What year is the M3? Was it running in F Street?

Examples from a time trial event would be another great comparison based on a high speed road course vs a lower speed AutoX course.

I think this is yet another great example to show power and prestige isn't everything. The Type R (IMO) is a ugly, but very engineered quite well. Not sure I'd own one, but I'd love to spend some time behind the wheel.

I think the 340i With XDrive will have the edge in a drag race but you’d need some serious aftermarket upgrades (track coilovers, sway bars etc.) to compete on the track against it.

I can hang around Type R's on track pretty easily but in a straight drag race it's a different story. Need a large exit speed advantage to get a point by, that's all driver mod though. Stock for stock a Type R would absolutely crush a 340iX on track.

Power/Curb Weight
340iX - 320hp/3710 = .086 HP per lb
R - 306hp/3117 = .098 HP per lb

12% less power to weight on a 340iX, it's not winning anywhere.

Do you track on stage 1 or revert back to stock?
