F80 cluster on f30 100% functional

Finally fitted a f80 cluster to my f30. All functions work 100% including gear, drive mode changes, m-hud and m shift lights. It's very easy to remove cluster only 2 t20 torx bits and 2 or 3 connectors depending if you have hud. The f80 cluster fits exactly the same as the f30 cluster.

Things you will need:
F80 cluster virginized (you will have a tamper dot if it's not virginized)
Gear adapter: this will convert the signal so it will display gears correctly, not needed for manual gearbox cars. I've used a bimmer ecu adapter but they don't ship outside of the US. I can help with getting a adapter for people outside of the US. You can also use XHP to show gears but it will be set out like a manual f80 on your cluster.

Can you share a site to obtain the ecu adapter you mention above and where it goes, or what it takes to install? Would like to do this mod as well.

Does an F30 speed limit emulator hooked up to my OEM Kombi work with the F80 Kombi? I also didn't quite understand what the difference is if you only use xHP and ignore getting the gear adapter.

i wonder if you can fit 6wb to F80? if you have 6wa, what makes you want to switch to F80 cluster as it looks similar (hybrid digital/analog) with exception of the grey gauge?

I've never seen an F8x car with a 6WB so not sure if it supports M cars and their functionality. I'd be eager to see someone try it lol.

Installing an F8x cluster in an F3x car provides the M HUD plus the cluster looks cooler than the standard 6WA F3x cluster. I'm assuming the dynamic "red line" LED's work as intended that raise as the engine warms, showing your current gear (emulator required apparently), having the "M" on the cluster and like you mentioned the gray gauge is just a little more aesthetically pleasing.

I know there is coke Chinese ones as well. The adapter is connected to the wiring that is on the gague cluster from the car. The install is very simple 2 t20 screws to remove cluster and coding.

No it will not work sadly, the gear adapter emulates signal from dct to cluster so the gears display properly. If you use xhp instead on the adapter, it will show gears on the cluster like a manual f80, you can see neutral, reverse and 1-8 gears. No park and sport mode display.

I prefer the look of the white led at night, better bottom screen, shift lights on cluster, m hud working as well.

Yes pretty much, only need gear adapter for automatics.

What about the HUD? Did you have to swap out the HUD unit to a F80 one or were you able to reuse your F30 one?

the HUD data/graphics are generated by the gauge cluster.

I believe so yes. fun fact even when I installed my 6WB cluster, some of my HUD graphics were updated, I noticed some of the highway signs on the HUD navigation graphics were different.

I used the hud from my f30, all the mhud info is send from cluster. All you need to do is change cluster to get m hud. I would still double check if m3 cluster has the hud port cos some m3 don’t have hud.

I'll add my voice to this request. Installed my F80 gauge cluster today. It was virginized and coded, and I have the BIMECU adapter. I don't get the tachometer in the HUD and the display in the lower part of the tach and lower center display in the cluster isn't showing modes, etc. Also, the Bimecu adapter is supposed to get the current gear displayed in the cluster, but I get an M1, C1, etc., *when the shift is made* but not persistently (reaching out to bimecu about this). These features are visible in Joweed's video at the top of this thread. The cluster is a HUD-ready F80 6WA, so I'm confident it's not the cluster itself.

Did my coder miss something?

All advice, tips, taunts, sympathis, etc., are welcome.

It depends on how the cluster was coded. Maybe need coding as f80.
