Car seems to idle very rough and shake back and forth the first 30 seconds after startup.

Any ideas?

Not trying to be an a hole I just didn't post it cus it's all in my signature block.

It's 2013 F30 335xi 8A bone stock. All the parts listed on the signature have been purchased but not installed yet.

Car has had valve cover and gasket replaced, all brakes and parts replaced, front ball joints replaced, and as of today had a coolant hose replaced due to major leak and overheating.

Charge pipe going into throttle body has small crack and is of course getting replaced when all the aftermarket mods go on.

Probably the leak in the chargepipe to intake manifold. These cars are MAF based and will have difficulties if you have a boost/intake leak like that. I'd take care of it ASAP and stop driving until you do.

The car has been getting terrible 14mpg gas mileage too despite never reving motor past 2k.

Do you think it's all related to charge pipe?

I just had this issue with mine. Took it in under warranty and all it was is a flash update recommended by bmw. Fixed the shaking and bogging at startup

Just so you are aware... I don't see your signature in mobile. Relax a bit. People are trying to help.

More than likely it's your cracked chargepipe. You won't build boost correctly, maf will get all sorts of mixed readings and try to adjust. Results in poor mpg, no response. I'm surprised you don't have a CEL. May want to check your spark plugs as well.

Hey just want to clarify- I am NEVER being condescending or rude on here. Sometimes its impossible to even express words without them being taken the wrong way. I always say thank you and appreciate the posts of people that help me out.

I said not to be an A hole because I didnt want to come across as snarky or sarcastic or bitchy when I explained that I didnt post my car information in the OP because in my mind it is literally already displayed right underneath of the sentence I was typing (in the signature). I was just trying not to duplicate information because people will flame you for that on here too...cant win for trying.

I completely understand now signature does not show on mobile interface and it cant be taken as a valid expression of critical information. Thank you to everyone who posted something helpful!

Not that I owe you an explanation, but if you take the time to review my signature and think about it you may notice their is a hierarchy and pattern and an intuition to the way the words are expressed intended to make it easier to understand.

Echoing the same. Any leak in the charge pipe will make the job of MAF - or mass airflow sensor - more complicated.

MAF helps determine correct air fuel mixture by measuring the amount of air coming into the engine and providing details how much fuels needs to be added.

If there is a leak and MAF happens to be failing as well, the right fuel mixture will not be achieved.

I'd replace MAF at the same time as the charge pipe.

2012 n55 PWG, I get the same slight shake only on first start for about 30 sec
I also hear a ticking / knocking noise coming from the grilles for about 3-5 minutes, goes away once warmed.

I have upgraded charge pipe and new OEM plugs, 120,000KM.

research I have done on forum leads me to believe this is a normal thing for n55.


I would love more information on this as I do have future plans with the car and don't want to get to ahead of myself if somethings not 100%

Had intake valves walnut blasted
New oem spark plugs
Vrsf charge pipe

No leaks had that tested ... no check engine no codes in ista

I also have a huuuuge lack of power low end car barely moves at times but engine revs past 2k

I'm hoping the MHD or BM3 flash will recalibrate everything and get it nice and tight again?

Once I get the bolt ons that is of course.

Might be another issue, for me I have lots of power down low car moves fine its just the noise the really bugs me.

UPDATE:

BMS Intake, Front Mount and VRSF Charge Pipe installed today.

No more shaking or rocking on start up or idle.

Hard to say if it was the charge pipe, maf being dirty or both. New intake and pipe cleared it right up.

Car really moves, and the BMS intake was the best $200 I have ever spent! The sounds the engine makes now is just pure joy.

My car is having very similar issues recently on start up in the first 10 seconds or so. It almost dies initially but then idles rough and then smoothly within 15-20 seconds. 2015 335i with factory installed MPPK. I've read on a few posts that those who experienced similar problems had them corrected with a software update from the dealer as the above posted stated. I'm under warranty for only a few more months.

My F30 with 80k miles, new plugs, no mods and it does this shudder randomly.

However, it seems to do it when restarting after a short drive. So I experience it leaving work to go to the lunch and then leaving lunch to go back to work. Not every day, and not every time, but several times in the past week or two.

Still under warranty so I'll take it in and see what they say.

I have the n20 engine but had this same exact problem. Only stuttered after driving for about 20 mins then it would stutter after restart. After coming out of the grocery store or something....it ended being a bad coil pack and it was covered under warranty. Hope this helps
