Would you visit the dprk?
I’m currently watching through a few YouTube vlogs by some Australian lad visiting NK, it’s somewhere I find fascinating but I doubt I’d ever visit especially given the stories of the likes of Otto Warmbier.
The place looks amazing, maybe given the fact that Kim is now The Donald’s new best friend it might become more accessible. Biggest fear for me would be the hard labour in one of the concentration camps given that I find it hard to pick a pen up in work as it is. Fascinating place though. |

I've been to the DMZ and peered through the fence - not sure I'd want to go any further.

Inside North Korea with Regent Holidays
I mean it looks interesting, but there are so many other places already on my bucket list that I don't think I'd ever get round to visiting. Certainly wouldn't travel there by myself.

Indeed why get arrested and thrown in jail alone on some trumped up charge when you can do it with a group of people!

Nope, not until (if) there's a massive change in the regime/culture - way too extreme to risk travelling there. At least, that's how it's portrayed.

Would love to go - damn sight more interesting than Costa Del Fat Fucker where people just go and vegetate for two weeks and have the same food as home.

Yes, me too. Would love to go. Find it a very interesting place. I think if you respect the country and dont act a dick, you wont get lifted. Those outsiders that do get detained tend to be journos taking the piss or Americans flouting the rules. If you go there with a westerners attitude or like a typical tourist, you will attract undue attention. They are a very different, isolated people. That doesnt always make them 'bad'.
Will be interesting to see if they start to relax how they receive tourists in future. Currently limited to being escorted everywhere and shown what the officials want you to see (hmm, not that different from some central London tours..). |

Watching it too.
I find it interesting the slant Western journos pretty much always take when reporting from North Korea. They naturally have a preconceived idea of what to expect and how they will be treated. I know its very restrictive for outsiders and any visit is very much formulated. What does make me chuckle somewhat is how they mention brainwashing, Pyongyang being a 'showcase city' and how the population is indoctrinated (you can apply that concept to pretty much any western ideology if you squint hard enough). I'm sure all those points are true but given the choice of visiting North Korea or Saudi Arabia (insert any other Islamic country), I know where I'd rather go. Seems like a cracking tourist place to visit. You wont get mugged, no one pushing cheap tourist tat on you and you get treated pretty well (so long as you respect their point of view of course). |

Watching this though you’d imagine that the people would be pretty miserable given what were told but actually it seems the opposite, this is Pyongyang though, I’m sure there’s more to come. |
