Same here. Every time I come to a stop they squeal unless I’m very hard or very light on the brakes. Normal brake pressure leads to a constant squeal. I’ve also tried bedding them, nothing. I have 32k miles.

Mine started at about 8k had them deglazed at first service and within 3k of that they are as bad as ever

Think there is modified pads for this, at least thats what i was told on my previous 330d that they fitted and it was fine until the end of the life of the pads. New 440 has been fine for 20k with no squeaks.

Love to hear more about that. I’m assuming you mean a revised BMW part number. That would probably mean there is a TSB.

A change of pad compound is a likely cure.

With named brand pads starting at under £35 delivered, it doesn't cost the earth to try this route.

27k and they want £760 for discs and pads.
I'm on 130k in my Transit and still on same original discs, I know not like for like and I'm not heavy on brakes but surely they can't have worn that much.

I would get a second opinion (and get someone other than a dealer to supply and fit).

My iDrive is showing 60k to go - e.g. hardly any wear.

With the Msport+ brakes, unless you're tracking the car, I would argue it's barely possible to get through the discs in 27k, even if you drive like a complete tool.

In my 330D I was a bit OTT (it was a company car so...), and the discs survived until around 40k before needing a swap. Even then, if it wasn't a company car I'm not sure I would have swapped that early. And they were standard brakes, the general theory is that the better brakes cost more, but last a fair bit longer too - due to more even pad wear and a larger pad to start with.

So yea, I'd get a second opinion for sure.

I just dropped off my ‘15 335i at the dealer. Surprisingly they offered a pad clean and chamfer right up front. We’ll see if it works.

Yeah, just need bedding in. Smaller brakes need less bedding in as there's less pad material to wear to the disc.

There must be something that can be identified as the reason some identical cars are permanently effected, others not at all. My friend's 330D saloon has the blue calipers and he has not had a problem in over a years ownership.

If my lovely wife is the only one to have driven our 4GC for a few days, I notice the brakes are noticeably softer than if I have recently driven it. They just need some regular firm use to stay bitey, general light town driving won't cut it and they will start to glaze and feel weaker.

It's also true of all brakes, but particularly performance brakes, that you will get the best performance once they're up to temperature. If you want to check all is as it should be, and also feel the true bite of the performance brakes, just take it for a mild thrash on some back roads and then see how they feel for the rest of the journey. They should certainly be bitey once warmed up, more so than my standard brakes on the old 3 series ever were.

Effectively polishing the disk and pads.
Well that can be discounted then.

My 435dx with standard brakes squeal annoyingly for the first few presses after an initial cold start, after that they are OK. They are 70% worn and due to be replaced in 7,000 miles so looking at alternatives.

Even in an auto, I mostly have my foot off the brakes when I'm driving along

I get what you mean though. I suppose the brakes are used to hold the car back when it wants to crawl, but I don't think it's a factor - I certainly have never heard of such issues with auto brakes before.

Mine only squeak when pulling up. it's the final part of braking, probably 10mph to 0. Which is nice as it means I'm at a full standstill in time to see everyone turning round to see the idiot that just pulled up in an old sh*tt*r

Yes that's spot on its always the last few yards on braking that gives the squeak. Particularly annoying when pedestrians turn round to see where the noise is coming from! We are driving an expensive motor so don't expect it to be a squealer!

I've had that with a few older sets of pads on other cars, have they always done it? My brakes also stop squeaking if you get them properly warmed up - but with the MS+ brakes that's really hard to do without going out on some back roads specifically to do some sustained breaking.

It really IS annoying!!

They are nice cars, and mine has 20" rims and the m performance kit (not specced by me..) so it looks a bit 'show off' to start with, really not a good look when your car squeals like freight train at each pedestrian crossing
