No Heated Seats.

Hi All I am looking at a 3 series with merino leather & electric memory seats, but not heated! can this option be retro fitted ? or can BMW wire these in inc switches, any help appreciated.

Is that definitely correct or a mistake in the spec? I thought all the electric seats were heated?

You can have one without the other - I did in my 1st F30.

I would also say that whilst they are nice they are a quite a long way down my must have list.

Top of my personal must have list, but I see you're from Yorkshire so made of sterner stuff

OP - good luck personally, if you haven't bought the car yet then I would say move on and find another. One will come along.

I’d imagine it would be more effort than its worth... fitting the heater pad, loom and switch panel.

Must say i have already started using my heated seats... must have on a car we get - more so for the wife.

I'd agree - and I am nearly from Yorkshire (thankfully born just the right side of the Derbyshire border...)

Plenty of 3s available around the country, wait till the right one comes along...

Except you do come resale. I had no end of problems selling my E46 coupe that had leather, but not heated. I would say they are mandatory for leather - either spec them yourself or choose a model where they are standard.

Hmmm not so sure on that myself. I too wanted heated seats but found a near on perfect condition F31 with a no expense spared service history that I just couldn't walk away from. Can't say I've missed them yet really, on the odd cold morning we've had the only time the cold leather has bothered me is when I first get in the car, not a lot that heated seats can do about that!

Also I've never known a diesel car warm up as quick as mine either, less than a mile down the road and warm air is blowing out the air vents.

Wot he said

Im not completely certain but am fairly sure my F31 has some kind of witchcraft in its climate system like a fan heater as it blows hot air at me from the end of the road unlike my previous diesel car which took an age

Prev car also had arse warmers all round which TBH we dont miss as the 335d warms up so quickly

Cheers

Never having had them before I wasn’t too fussed either, but when I tried to sell it (it was in mint condition) everyone asked ‘does it have heated seats’ and ‘does it have xenons’.

I believe the f3x vehicles have auxiliary heaters so blow out warm air very quickly even though the engine is still cold.

They have an electric heater element in them that rapidly warms up so you have warm air for defrost and quick warm up. If it had to rely on the coolant you’d be waiting for a good few miles.

When I speced my car it didn't choose the heated seats, then a last minute change and choose the comfort pack.

I suffer from back problems and the heated seats are a god send.

Not a deal breaker for me. Depends on the rest of the spec, if it's high then I can live without heated seats.

Same. I’d rather have cooled seats for when it’s roasting inside and the leather is burning hot

I’d also wish for an option to pre-cool the car like you can on the electric ones. Pop an extra battery in just for that so I can get 5-10 mins of air con while i’m Walking back to the car

down to around +5C no heated seats is not a biggy,
your arse soon warms the leather...

but when the winter bites hard and it's a -5C frosty morning,
no heated seats and leather is just painful.

It's bad enough holding the steering wheel at -5C,
leather gloves being the easy option...
