I had my first auto start/stop failure today on my 328i Sport line. I was about to pull away to make a left and took my foot slightly off the gas but then realized I couldn't go, so stepped back on the brake. Car started briefly and then stalled with a message on the control display and the transmission went into neutral.

I can't help but feel like this might be an accident waiting to happen!

I guess it's one more thing to bring up when I take it in eventually for the shaking at idle. Oh the joy of new cars

EDIT: My car's production month was May, I only received it last Thursday!

Sorry to hear

When you do take it in, be sure to make sure they're aware of the auto-start-stop fix bulletin. See http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=684964

Dare I say it, I'm actually not minding the ASS system at all on my 328i...
In fact, I like it?
If my wheel is turned, which it is usually at junctions and roundabouts, it won't stop. My only complaint so far is when I come to a stop and don't put it into P within 4 seconds, it will stop and then start up again in P but then I'm done so I shut it down manually again! But I can get used to avoiding that scenario.
It was just like on, off, on, OFF in the space of 10 seconds!
Does unnerve me though slightly thinking it could fail at a crucial time.

The issue is a bitch. I have had a stall twice. The solution for me is starting the car with two fingers, one on the cancel button. It has just become habit.

Just had my first faliure today on the way to work as well. Lately it wont kick in due to the high inside to outside temp difference. (feature of system). This morning it was cooler and I didnt expect it to kick in. Once it did the same issue you explaied above. I'm going to have to check my build date to confirm, but if it continues I will be sure to go to BMW.

Go technology, go progress, go lowered emissions! If only the car was a go too...

I feel like a lot of the start/stop functionality is software based, so with any luck they will improve on it over time. Sometimes the functionality is silky smooth and other times it reminds me of stalling a manual car.

Question for those of you who've had recent issues w/ A.S.S.; Did you have the "fix" performed before this? or have you not done this yet?

or in other words "Is this issue post-fix, or pre-fix"

The SIB only applied to 335's with a certain production date. Mine is a 328i and is outside of that production date.

Don't think that just because your car is produced after Feb that you are SOL.

I told my dealer to fix it using that bulletin and while it took them 5 days too long and a day of "testing" it... They fixed it without issue.

I was unaware it was 335 only....SO the next Q, have you brought up the issue with the DLR?

This worries me since you're based in Toronto too...

@Mrcarcrazy, I spoke to my dealers service department and they suggested that they can try the coding fix in the SIB on my car. I'm going to see if the stall happens more frequently and if so I will take it in.
