Do extract some coolant into clear bottle to check, looking into reservoir may not be as accurate.

If you do the voltmeter test, it’s .4 volts or lower, not .04; put my decimal in the wrong place lol. Some people say .3v, some say .5v, so you may want to go with the lower number if you want to play it extra cautious.

Got it, that does not look too bad to start with. How many miles and years?

Were the photos taken with the intake manifold removed, or the mechanic was able to snake in borescope with a few simple steps?

Honestly@73k miles and 6 years, your intake valves look relatively clean.

Did the mechanic say u need walnut blasting due to rough idle or something?

I agree... valves look fine at 75k miles.

Ever ran a catch can?

I thought the N55 was more prone to carbon buildup due to DI.

Wonder what an N20 with this mileage looks like.

Agreed. I am surprised they recommended it for how clean it looks

N20/N26 is also DI, so it is susceptible to same carbon buildup if present.

Probably just soak the valves with cleaner and let it sit overnight, and the thin layer of deposit can be stripped without walnut blasting. Then vacuum extract any pooled cleaner and call it a day.

That's assuming the intake manifold is already removed(which probably is the case).

Photos were taken with the intake manifold removed. I have an issue at random times where the idle fluctuates very badly almost like the car is going to stall at start up.

Mechanic ran diagnostics and everything checked out except one time fault on cylinder 2. Mechanic wanted to verify it wasn't due to carbon build up on the valves. Still having him walnut blast it as a maintenance item; only would've saved .8 hours of labor if he didn't clean them.
