How Does a Resonator Delete Sound?
2014 435i xDrive Coupe
Engine and exhaust totally stock. I want to increase the sound without it being to obnoxious. How does a resonator delete sound, with everything else stock? Should I go with a resonator delete, or a muffler delete? |

YouTube has a bunch of videos of 340i's with Dinan mid-pipes and stock exhausts.

Definitely recommend a resonator delete. It's cheap and adds a good tone without making it sound horrible. No drone inside at all either, i did it to my 15 335i and don't regret it at all.

Stock everything other than a resonator delete.

It will add nothing more than drone. Don't waste your money. Get a muffler delete if anything. Riding around town it's not obnoxious. It gets loud when you romp on it.

I have stock 435i exhaust with a resonator delete and it is honestly how the car should sound from the factory imo. All the pops are a bit louder, tone is better. I also unplugged my exhaust valve, so it is always in sport mode. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

DO NOT DO A MUFFLER DELETE on these cars the muffler eliminates the drone. just delete the resonator. I deleted my muffler and there is HORRIBLE drone from 2,400 rpm to 3,000 rpm got it put back on in two weeks. getting resonator delete this next week

I don't feel that it will make the exhaust sounds louder, is that correct? |

My exhaust was louder after the resonator delete. After changing out my stock muffler it was a little louder but not enough so I replaced my resonator with a straight pipe and it was louder, not ridiculously loud but noticeably louder, especially when I get on it.

It will make the exhaust noticeably louder but it won't be as loud as a muffler delete.

I paid $50 for a local shop to delete my resonator. I am running stock exhaust with a resonator delete. Imo, this is how the car should have come from the factory. Nice burbles and the up shift burble is more pronounced. In eco pro, loading the engine at low rpm; on say the highway up a hill, you can hear a tiny bit of drone if you try to listen for it.

Just for clarification, you're essentially having an exhaust shop cut out the resonator and clamp in a straight pipe in it's place, right?
Thanks in advance, always learning.

i now have a wagner catless downpipe with my resonator delete. it is deep and throughty. i would never go back! having the cat delete i believe there is less exhaust turbulence and it just made the whole exhaust sound and "feel" better.
if you are getting a downpipe upgrade JUST GO CATLESS. there is zero smell inside car. i find the smell to be enticing anyway. and i only smell it in my garage and driveway on cold starts. high flow cats are triple the price, still throw a cel, and rob like 13% performance compared to just a catless downpipe. dont let people saying catless will be too loud or drone or smell scare you from getting one. because it almost prevented me from getting one. thats not the case at all. getting rid of that waffle cone made driving my car better in every way. |

Triple the price? True. However I've had my Fabspeed catted DP on for almost 2 years now and not a single CEL. And passed state emissions testing. In my case totally worth it.
