Crack /creak noise from interior
So I've had my F34 for 6 months. Love it
The car is surprising low of rattle and squeek considering the chassis.. I've spent some time silencing the child seat in the back(microfiber betwixt the leather and the seat bottom helped a lot) There's still a crack when going over bumps... seems like it come from the trim above the interior mirror. Does anyone have experience of this? |

It’s a big boat of a car with a lot of plastic trim pieces + the 2 rear window shade panels can sometimes have a tiny bit of play in them. Door panel pin clips could rattle. Anything loose you have in the car. I try not to let it drive me crazy in my F34 but there are cracks here and there when you go over bumps and whatnot. It’s not terrible. You could always have a second person ride with you to help lend an ear and try to pinpoint your creak. Cheers.

Yeah thanks, so my update is: I removed and refitted both interior lights with some vecro hook tape on the rubber bits... Still cracking. The spent A LOT of time on the Internet to discover a post elsewhere about the rear parcel shelf pieces rubbing. Stowed them in the underfloor. Silence.
Can listen to Brian Eno LPs without interruption. |

Curious , which interior lights are you referring to exactly?

Front one above the rear view mirror, and the back one above the rear passengers.
When you look at the removed part there's loads of overspray from the splutter coating of the reflectors on the outside of the fitting that touches the rooflining. Apparently chrome is terrible for squeaking. |

Nah definitely the parcel shelf. I refitted it today.. creak is back. Will try some fuzzy tape on the rugby bits.. might be the spigot mounts but let's see.

I think BillFitz has used butyl (dynamat stuff) on the underside of the parcel shelves to help with roadnoise. I'm sure it would probably help with creaks somewhat, but worry about the weight of that stuff and if it would fall down over time if the sticky side no longer worked well.
I'd like to try some easy ways to reduce creaks as well, but hesitant on this idea as I often store my shelves in the trunk indentations (when carrying large loads) and not sure they would fit if I added additional thickness. Are your rubber bushings working well for the smaller (upper shelf) that press-fits into the hatchback? |
