Sensor replacements & Computer detection
Hi all. Have a 2018 330i GT and car was throwing a bad camshaft sensor (exhaust) code, and code to replace the MAF sensor, and running lean code, idling a bit rough, a gas mileage decreased a good bit over the last few months. As of this Monday, I got 360 miles range on a full tank.
This Tuesday, I changed the MAF sensor, filled the tank, and within about 5-10 miles on the freeway, the range increased to 410 miles. The idle improved a bit, too. I changed the camshaft exhaust sensor yesterday (Wednesday), filled up the tank, and topped off the fuel. It was above 3/4 full before filling, and showing range of 360 miles. After the replaced the camshaft sensor, and topped off the fuel, I drove for about 20-30 miles, and the fuel range remained between 357-161 the entire time. Today, I turned on the car, and the range was at 356 still. I drove 20 miles up the road and back, and it now says the range is 297 miles. This feels "off." Does it take a few days or cold starts for the car's computer to adjust to the new sensors? Note: I'm no mechanic. Car has 123k miles. |

I’m not sure of the code/sensor issue, but I’m pretty sure the range on the instrument cluster adjusts to your driving style and is only an estimate. I would more so rely on your MPG readings + calculate your actual miles driven via the odometer to see what your full tank range is after the fact. But again, it will change depending on driving style/highway city driving, etc, so I doubt it will be the exact same range estimate every fill up.
