I was wondering if I could ask someone with this to do me a favor? Can you put it in Eco + and then launch the car and let me know if it noticeably reduces power and acceleration?
Thinking about this product for another application that would have high HP and looking for a way to make it "slower" without having to hold back on the throttle application. |

If by launch the car you mean floor the throttle then the result would be the same if the XLR were in Eco+ or in Race+. The device does not add or take away any power in any mode.
It only makes a difference to part throttle inputs. Gentle pressure off the line in Eco will waft you away from standstill. Gentle in Race will fire you down the road, as would full throttle in Eco. |

I had the first version on my 435 and was very happy with the change it makes. Those who criticize these boxes haven't experienced one before. Definitely a great product that transforms the drive experience

It does not alter power in any way.
What is does do is, as mentioned, adjust the responsiveness of the throttle. Hence it is not the same as just mashing the pedal (a common misconception), because no matter how much you stamp on the loud pedal, the throttle will only open at the predefined rate/speed...which is slow. The pedal box makes the relationship of the pedal position to the throttle position much more linear. So if you bury the pedal, the throttle will be fully open, and the throttle will be opening at the same rate the pedal is pushed. I really like it on my 640i, as it makes the car much more responsive...not any more powerful. I keep mine in S+, I only ever use R or R+ if the car is in full on sport everything mode! Quote:
However, if you mash your foot to the floor from standstill, it will respond the same way as a standard car in eco mode.....whatever that is.....suspect it would take off but with a slight initial delay, as you'd be hitting the kickdown button which i would assume would override any eco settings as the ECU is being told "fucking go!!! I don't give a shit about economy right now". I can't see how you'd make a high power car less responsive without (a) remapping it to physically reduce the output or (b) tune the throttle to make it slower to respond. You'd have to do one or the other. Last edited by Russbmw; 01-20-2020 at 04:16 AM.. |

I've got a Pedal Box on my Golf R (mainly due to the fact there is an half inch dead spot when you first depress the throttle).
The pedal box works brilliantly and its function is best described as a graph.... So with the box switched off, 10% throttle is obviously 10% throttle. But in Sport mode, 10% throttle is boosted to nearly 30% throttle. (That sounds a bit high to me, based on my experience, but you get the idea).

The graph does kind of explain it, but the reality is that the blue line (stock) in most cases at least, does not have a linear relationship to the throttle - that's the problem
ie: the throttle position lags behind the throttle open position for the most part - it's only comparable at near closed or near open. |

Utter garbage, I tried one for a few days and sent it back, as per the above quoted figures sometimes you actually want a 10% throttle not a minimum of 30% in a powerful car, such as balancing the car on a trailing throttle in a corner, these stupid devices remove any finesse and turn the throttle into an on/off switch, great if all you like to do is the traffic light Grand Prix but if you like driving properly they completely ruin things and turn the pedal into a blunt instrument.

The website advises that there is an increase in power? And there are three differing versions (between 400 - 200 quid) available (at least for a 340i)?

For those of us who are not race car drivers like yourself, many seem to find that it has quite the opposite effect, as without it, the pedal is (ironically) a blunt instrument and having the additional sensitivity and predictability of how the car is going to react to the pedal movement is quite welcomed. Perhaps it's different on smaller cars, but on my 6 it makes the car feel like my 435i sport used to out of the box, which is great given it's a much bigger, heavier car. |

Interesting. I haven't got one, just a JB+, always thinking of Bootmd3 / MHD though.

I had jb+ on my 340i then added a pedal box.. Much improved... Now I have MHD and I have kept the pedal box... It improves things no end

How does MHD feel compared to JB+? I expect it's stronger at the top end but someone on here said JB+ had more mid-range torque.

It’s certainly does not turn the throttle into an on/off switch. You must have had a faulty one or something.

Hi all
Hopefully not a stupid question but will the pedal box improve a manual 340i ? I’ve had the MPPSK kit fitted but she still seems to lack power from the lower Rev range. |

It doesn't feel the same as just planting your foot harder on the throttle, take a look at the video posted earlier in the thread for a better explanation. Not to everyone's taste and it can become a bit tiring. You may find yourself dialling it down to a lower setting to get a more linear throttle. Feels like the torque surge you get from a powerful diesel.
