I recommend the catted downpipe instead.

If you want a no CEL guarantee, get the active autowerke downpipe

if the CEL is not a concern, we have CTS Turbo on sale

I'd do catted mike mike@xhp said. I have this exhaust, and when I ran it with the VSRF catted DP (5") it was pretty loud. Under load climbing hills the dash vibrated, the seats vibrated. Open the rear doors, and the cold start was deafening. Got the ER catted DP, and it sounds a million times better.

I would assume catless would louder than that and more.

I know this thread is about the axle back, but I run a bit of an odd combo that accomplishes what you are describing --> AA Catted DP->Dinan Midpipe->remus axle back. The Remus is valved, which allows you to tone it down on highway cruises and open it up when you want more sound.

The valve is nice. I ended up welding the OEM valve into my AA axle back left tip (super easy since that tip just clamps onto the muffler).

I like that a lot better since I can reduce the sound when cruising like dman2b2 said with his setup.

I currently have the VRSF catless with a BM3 tune, so not worried about the CEL or cold starts..or burbles for that matter (not my jam).

Yeah, this the info that I was looking for. I'm not down with a seat massager/exhaust, or to piss off the neighbors, just looking for more sound than I currently have. Was drawn to the AA exhaust for the price, but I don't think that this is the one for me.

I like the idea of the valve in theory, but the added cost of dmanb2b's setup or welding isn't super appealing.

I'm wondering if the M-perf or Dinan exhaust might be better for me. Any thoughts on those?

I had a mperformance or the MPE axle back with no valves. It sounded and looked really nice, but too much highway drone. It sounds like the MPPSK would fit the bill or a remus cat/dp back system, but then you are looking at a pretty significant cost.

Was that on a 335 or 340 and auto or manual?

I'm around 3K RPM give or take on the highway and that might be out of the drone zone.

you really do have me thinking about welding the actuator on to the AA now. Does the valve always open in sport+ regardsless of temp? I have it open full time now with the BM3 tune.

It seems with BM3 (I have it set to 'OEM') that in sport, it opens with slight throttle and then closes at cruise. I can hear it on a drive through. Click to to comfort, and it closes, pull ahead slowly and it opens.

Not 100% sure if that is after the engine is hot, or all the time though. For the AA, it was really easy to do. The left tip is just a stainless elbow that clamps onto the muffler. I was able to cut a chunk out of that elbow, and weld in the OEM valve I cut from the original exhaust.

340, auto. hwy cruising rpm around 2200, imo it would be worse at 3k.

Garage List
2016 BMW 340i  [0.00]
Last week, I decided to pull the trigger on one of these. Many Thanks to Mike
@ XPH, with their Black Friday sale. I was able to get it with the carbon tail pipes at about half the cost of the Remus and Dinan axle backs. At first, I was skeptical, because there are not a lot of reviews on this axle back with the 340 and aftermarket mid pipes. Also, I am still running on the stock downpipe. My muffler shop did have to make a few modifications for it to fit with my Dinan mid pipes. But once we started the car, it sounded incredible. It actually cleaned up the sound in my opinion and added a nice level of bass to the exhaust note, and to the pops and burbles. Overall, I am very impressed, as this is what I was looking to achieve.

Is there any dyno illustrating the +15hp? Not that it’s a huge amount, but an extrs 15hp isn’t a bad thing!

Also, if already running an AA catted downpipe and stage 1 tune, would you expect the same 15hp benefit?

Hi, I am in the market for a dual tip, dual exhaust like on the 435i for my 428i. What is the a reasonable priced solution you recommend? I am also looking to purchase a MST cold air intake, and will probably buy both of them together. Looking to accomplish the look but don't need it super loud, want a mellower sound if possible.

I have a 2014 428i Xdrive Convertible.

Check out the Valvetronic exhaust.

We also offer the MST intake, once you are ready, let me know and we can do a combo deal.
