Mixing Tire Brand/Model - General Thoughts

What are your feelings on mixing different brand/model of tires from front to back? Are you comfortable doing this as long as the front two match and the rear two match?

My rear RFTs are shot, but I don't want to pull the trigger and replace all 4. Im thinking if I replace just the rears (still RFTs for now), I would need to replace all 4 next time. The OEM rears are ridiculously expensive (Bridgestone Potenza $368/tire) and I don't love them. I was thinking about going with the Pirelli P Zero RFTs on the rear.

Tire manufacturers do not recommend mixing tires for safety reasons. In this instance, safety means the same brand, size, tread pattern, load index, and speed rating on the front and rear tires.

Your approach to replace rear tires is a _marginally_ better one. The new tires - with a deeper tread - should be installed in the rear and as a pair only.

Bridgestone Potenza S001 are one of the harshest RFT tires. I prefer RFT tires for convenience reasons and switched to Pirelli P Zero, a much better tire within the RFT ecosystem.

Having said the above, mixing tires would not be my recommendation.

I haven't needed to do it in the past that I remember, but I wouldn't hesitate to do it, unless perhaps you plan on driving at the limits of tire grip and need them to be consistent in different conditions.
