Ive been running no front plate since 12/2016, commuting from Buena Park to Irvine daily and no issues. Also have tinted windows.

I did a weekend trip recently up to Santa Barbara and street parked downtown; came back 40 minutes later to find a $48 ticket for no front plate. I'll pay the money and keep my bumper looking clean

Dealer had one on mine. No front required in PA so got bumperplugs... looks much better now!

A fix-it-ticket is definitely a PITA. But it's no the end of the world. In any case in CA there's safety in numbers since something like 1 out of 10 cars have no front plates. Yes you may get unlucky but chances are nothing will happen. I got pulled over for speeding 6months into my M235i and the cop didn't bat an eye at my lack of front plates. And he had me tagged from the front.

Maybe your windows are tinted? whatever it is, I don't need that kind of attention. The black legacy plates make a difference and look way better than the awful standard white with blue cursive CA plates.

Sidebar is I think the front plate mounted on the tow hitch looks ridiculous on many levels. First, its not symmetrical - looks off and randomly placed. That being said, it basically looks worse than a centered plate and furthermore, to someone like me who knows about car culture, it looks kind of desperate. You are basically saying you thought long and hard about the front plate and then settled on randomly having it stick off to the side on the tow hitch, because you just had to preserve the integrity of your dime a dozen-3 series-front bumper... Yikes. So in my opinion, either man up and don't have a front plate at all or have one. No in between.

The tow hitch, for me at least, is so I can mount it for inspection then literally take it off in the CHP parking lot immediately after. I agree, I don't think it looks good. Surprisingly some of my driving buddies do. To each their own I guess!

I got pulled over by a bored CHP officer on Highway 70 near Quincy in Plumas County. Their fix it ticket just needed to be signed off. They don't even get filed with the courts (and incur the $25 fee) if you reply by the deadline.

I just epoxied three heavy duty neodymium magnets inside the bumper shell, then put one of those soft rubberized magnetic blocks they sell to car dealers on the back of the plate. It's held at well over 100 mph, but takes just seconds to remove and replace.
