Supply issues

Talking to the SIL tonight about why he hasnt got his new car yet (C43 coupe this time..) - apparently it cant be supplied because it has adaptive cruise and lane assist and someone somewhere has deemed that is too close to self driving without driver input so all supplies stopped.....

Added to that there has apparently been a fire that has destroyed the factory of the chip supplier for JLR so they have supply chain issues for the foreseeable...

Cant see deals improving any time soon if new car supplies are restricted.... but might be a good time to sell!

There is a global chip supply issue currently and it's getting worse affecting everyone.

Too right, it's affecting everything from cars to computers. My 8 year old graphics card died and I needed to get another, there's pretty much nothing available without paying extortionate prices on ebay.

Good luck with that. I’m currently 249 in a queue for a graphics card - ordered Sept 2020!

I'd already heard that BMW had pulled the driver assistance pro pack - so we can see why now. And I knew about the chip problem - read it in respect of Audi first. But a factory fire taking out supply is going to make matters worse.... and in a market where supply was already affected by the pandemic, it suggests that deals are not going to be better in Q3....

I was in a queue for a rtx 2060 super but cancelled that after a couple of months as I managed to get hold of a Pny rtx 3060 for £500. Rrp is around £300 but the same cards are on ebay for £650!! I have a mini itx case so am limited for gpu length.

It's a sign from above to say that one should trust their own driving skills than depending on those(supposed)safety tech

Car manufacturers have found themselves at the back of the queue as well as they cancelled orders going into the pandemic just as demand went ballistic for IT equipment when they tried to come back on stream they found the capacity was already taken up.

I know what you mean. Many years back building and repairing PCs and servers was part of my job. Now I just code, I've got no idea what goes inside

Glad I have a year or so left on my existing PCP so if my new 135 order is delayed by this then it is just an inconvenience, rather than a case having to bridge a gap between end of one PCP and delivery of the new car...

Feel sorry for folk who are less fortunate but these have been some odd times all round and the stop/start of the supply chain leads to bumps in the road, for sure...

And Peugeot going old school with analogue speedo and rev counters on certain models, I'm guessing that will be a very basic model

That's going to hurt ramping up production just when demand is increasing. Also going to make the used and in stock prices stay firm for quite a while.
