2018 F30 340i AUTO

Hi guys,

Im completely new to this world of cars, previously owned a 1.2 swift and now just purchased this 340i - could someone help me with what i should look into doing to this car going forward, anything to be aware of or make sure i do? Including things like remapping how it works, all that.

I know it is common sense for most of you but would be great for me to learn if someones willing to explain

Thanks

Hi and welcome!

I fully understand the need and desire, but unfortunately there is no "quick" way to digest for you what has been collectively discussed for years in the threads here. You will have to make some efforts and browse through the various threads here to build your own opinion about it. It is neither possible, neither efficient for anyone to try to summarise all the knowledge and experience in this forum, on such a top level.

Maybe already familiar with the structure, but start with these sub-forums:
https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/fo...play.php?f=373
https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/fo...play.php?f=663
https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/fo...play.php?f=412

If you have more specific questions - by all means, but first always try the search feature - it is free of charge Chances are - someone has already asked that question before

Welcome again!

Maybe spend a year getting used to what the car has, before spending time & money on changing it?

That way you'll save money, and only fit things that are going to make it better or useful to you.

Congrats on your purchase. I'm also 2 years into owning my 2016 340 6speed and there's so much i still have to explore before doing any mods. I would say just take care of it, regular maintenance, continually check fluids, etc basic stuff. Not aware of any major issues plaguing this platform and hopefully it stays that way. One thing many people talk about is coolant loss, but as i said earlier keep checking fluids and you should be good. Also, as with all BMW's as i was told, don't beat on it unless its properly warmed up.

Just a note: This is not BMW-specific but valid for ANY human-made mechanical device!!! It is also in the user manual of every Ferrari, if it is any consolation

You NEVER push hard a cold engine!

Please share if your vehicle is xDrive and provide a list of all options. Will helpful to make suggestions more specific.

All very sensible advice. I came from an old E92 330i but still felt the F30 340i (also auto) was a very different beast and I needed 12 months (and some track time) to really feel totally confident with the car and its dynamics. I've since installed a LSD and the MPPSK, but that was only after some time.

Coming from a 1.2 Swift, you will be literally blown away. If you have the spare cash for a LSD I'd suggest doing it, but if I were you I wouldn't even consider a remap for a while.

Well you can start with good 93 octane gas every fill up. Letting car get up to temperature before gunning it. And NoT shutting car off right after you nailed it. Let turbo spin down so you dont get any coking in your oil. And keep up with maintenance. find a non dealer bmw specialist to do that and you’ll save thousands. And have some fun with add one that won’t kill your warranty ( if you have one ) ....carbon fiber spoiler, carbon fiber mirror caps, etc... stuff you can do yourself. And give it a good waxing right away

How much was the lsd and mppsk, and do you still think its worth it?

I paid 2.2k for the LSD and 1.35k for the MPPSK. All sterling of course. Were they worth it? Absolutely, no buyers remorse at all. The LSD transforms the car and the MPPSK adds character and a nice little mild tune/remap.

However I did get the latter on a special offer, I wouldn't have paid the 3k RRP for it but was a bargain at the offer price.

Thanks for replying, my friends uncle has a garage for over 25 years and he's happy to help me with maintenance and everything. Re the paint, is it better to wax it or apply paint sealant or both? What brands as well in the UK if you know?

Again I appreciate it thanks

Hey man. Fairly new noob here (first car after 9 years nyc no car living).

I mainly focused on cosmetic and tech things to get the car "where I want it."

The only performance oriented thing i'd look into would be suspension upgrades. If you have the adaptive, it makes your options significantly easier.

If you dont have apple carplay, id look into that.

The shadowline tail lights are also an amazing improvement to the car.
