Steering failed on f31, loud noise
Hi,
I have a 2014 f31 with 190k on the clock owned from new mostly motorway miles. Without any sign the car has now failed it's steering, loud electrical noise when trying to turn the steering wheel but essentially it's failed and is undrivable. Had a quick search and can only see knocking information which isn't really the case. Is it terminal or what options do I have, seems a shame to scrap the car as have owned from new and is in great condition with 4 new tyres just a month ago. Be good to hear what options I have as I suspect it's a new rack? Thanks |

Failure of the bolts that attach the electric motor to the rack is widespread and well documented. So is the bad thrust piece. Search 'BMW steering rack service bulletin'.
