Booster jab and travelling
I am only able to book the booster jab from today, and the earliest appointment is January 5th.
I plan to travel back to Denmark for xmas - do I need this booster jab to travel? As I understand, I am no longer fully vaccinated without

As far as I know you're fully vaccinated with 2 jabs and no country is asking for 3 to allow travel. I think the 3rd is just classed as making you fully 5G enabled and so Bill Gates can tell what you're thinking. I've got mine booked for just before Christmas.

Some countries are asking. That is the reason UK Gov rushed to add recording it to the app on vac record for travel part. From memory, Israel is one but I have not yet seen it for an EU country but some started to say they are thinking about it. I would keep an eye on the Danish embassy website. If you are desperate some locations have walk-in for booster jabs and you could travel to one of those

Plenty of sites accept walk ins. Might be worth checking for peace of mind. The day I was due there were no booking slots, but I just turned up and I was in and out in 30 minutes. Might be worth checking a few around you.

Pretty sure there are walk-in vaccination centres up here where, as soon as you are eligible, you can go to get your booster...
Having to wait 6 weeks seems somewhat contrary to the suggestion that boosters are available if you want them.... I appreciate things in London may be completely different to things here...

We don't have walk-ins for the booster, it's all being rolled out by age category. I've got mine booked for 11th Dec, but they've not yet called forward anyone below 50 that's not in a high-risk category.
Is it not 6 months after your last jab/infection that's recommended, mainly because efficacy will be lower if you top up any sooner? |

Walk in centres have a fair bit of availability- there was a fair few slots available at the one I was working at on Monday just gone.
Only hold back may be if you haven’t got the requisite time span between the second dose and the booster.

There is a place near me - I assume the uptake is low as I'm in East London

You can book at 5 months on the NHS site but have to wait for 182 days since your 2nd jab.
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/corona...id-19-vaccine/ 2nd Jab was 25th June, and I have booked for the 20th Dec. The other issue is relative lack of pfizer and moderna stock compared to AZ. The third jab is normally a different one to your first two. At Stoke Mandeville hospital where there is a massive vaccination centre, AZ was freely available at walk ins but for younger people anything other than AZ needed to be booked in advance to make sure they had stock on the day. |

I see a proposal from the Eu for their concession on the entry that the last vaccination has to be within the last 9 months.
Ok at present but say if I get my booster when booked on 6th December if I want to enter Finland for a music festival in Mid September I would be outside the 9 months limit without another booster. I am beginning to hope we are on regular 6 monthly boosters until this pandemic is well and truly over. |

My observation is that for the first two jabs there was unlimited supply of AZ but limited supply of anything else, so for younger people who could not have AZ they had to book on specific days to ensure there was stock of the vaccine there for them. For a booster you can definitely book at 5 months for the actual booster at six months. I would rather book and know I'm sorted than take a chance when I am at the six month date. |

This is purely because mRNA vaccines are more suited and more effective as a booster. And although not stated as an official reason, because we might need it again in the future, I suspect some of the risks around the AZ vaccine have played into this decision as well. |
