Is this just for AV receivers without built-in Bluetooth?

Just tried it, funny! Also asked her to sing a song!

I have already ordered another Dot, to replace our ancient DAB radio/CD player in the kitchen.

Just noticed there’s a new Echo 3rd edition released, same design and apparently slightly upgraded sound to the Echo Plus 2nd edition for just £89! Only thing extra the Plus has the Zigbee smart hub.

Also available for just £18pm for 5 months, no brainer imo!

How do you guys find this stuff?!

I was given an Echo Show 5 and hooking it up to Philips Hue lighting, Hive heating etc., has proved really convenient. I have it in the study and it's easy to just say "Alexa Night Mode" at which point it will switch off all the lights leaving the stair light on at 50% brightness, set the heating to 16º and tell you the weather forecast for the next day and any appointments you have. It's also handy for just asking random questions like "What's on TV tonight?" (it then shows you thumbnails of what's on and tells you at the same time), or "What's the flight time from London to Shanghai?" or "Remind me to call her indoors in half an hour". It'll even hook in to BMW Connected Drive so you can ask Alexa to unlock your car or plan a journey if you're into that sort of thing.

Is it a security risk? Of course it is, anything like this is going to increase your attack surface over not having one, but you then have to weigh up the risk of being personally affected (security by obscurity really) plus how do you treat security overall in your personal life, i.e. what other steps do you take? No sense worrying about what Alexa is doing if you just chuck used bank statements in the trash. As for Amazon targeting me with ads, well they're going to do that on their site whether I have an Echo or not so I haven' really lost anything.
