The 5erGT is such a sales failure. Why are they trying again with the next 3er?

Is the M-Sport coming out as soon as the F30 3 Series debut, or do we have to wait 6 months to 1 yr before it comes out?

Probably 6-12 months. Again, we can look at the timeline of the F10 and F25 intros until M-sport package debut.

does this mean the e90 will carry into the 2012 MY? or what? I ordered mine on April 16th because I thought they were stopping E90 production in November?

No 3er Touring in US?
Why? There's an intensely loyal group of wagon buyers that's just waiting for it.

I think that time table is incorrect. The car should go into production in November and will be released at the beginning of 2012. There is no way the sedan is over a year away if production begins in November 2011.

The timetable is likely correct at this point. Even if assuming E90 production stops in November, it doesn't mean that the F30 will begin production immediately. There will be some factory retooling time needed until F30 sedan begins production.

We won't see the F30 sedan for sale in any market until Spring of 2012.

They think people will be just as happy with the Gran Turismo and that the wagon would be redundant...I don't agree at this point but I'm clearly not an expert.

In fact, I wouldn't care at all if it weren't for the fact that I would prefer an M3 sedan over a coupe and may be in a position to buy in 3-4 years if I don't decide to just keep my beloved 1 series.

With all due respect I think you are incorrect. If I recall correctly Scott has said before the 5GT is a sales success as it has outsold the number of 5 Series Wagons.

Going by the timeline of the F10 intro and roll out of the upcoming M5, I think an F3x M3 would be closer to Late 2014 or Early 2015.
This would be fine by me! I graduate from dental school in 2015, so the F32 M3 would be a great grad present to myself!

I am confused, I thought it was confirmed before that the sedan would be released in Europe in April and USA in May? I was really hoping to do a ED in May.

Jason, I'll be shocked if we see a naturally aspirated 6 cylinder engine in the F3x 3 series.

For that matter, I'll be pretty surprised if there are any naturally aspirated engines in any F3x-based vehicle sold anywhere in the world.

Thanks for all the F3x dates, SCOTT.

Can you give us any precise info on:

- Last order date for e90/e91 3 series
- Last production date for e90/e91 3 series
- Last order date for e90 M3
- Last production date for e90 M3

I realize last order dates may vary by region. But I guess they will all fall within some specific date range.

The quote was for the US Market. Since it's introduction in early 2010 to present. BMW 5er Gran Turismo has sold in excess of three years sales combined of the 5er Touring (E61) in the USA. All that is within the space of a year.

The 5er Gran Turismo , however is no volume car. That is why under 25,000 sales within a certain time frame are seen as successful for BMW.
BMW's initial projections for 5er GT was 10% of overall 5er sales including the Sedan and Touring.
The car has fullfilled it's intentions and is extremely popular in Europe and also China , considering the 5er is available as a Long Wheel base model.
Of course in European markets it is outsold by the 5er Touring.

For the 3er Gran Turismo again it is not being pushed for volume but at a slightly higher 20% of the next 3er line. Considering the car will be ideally placed to offer the customer a similar experience to the 5er GT and be available with four cylinder power plants. There will be nothing like it in it's class. Just like the interior of the 5er GT is compared to high premium luxury models because of it's ambience.

In the current market the BMW 3er Touring E91 in the USA is being buried by the rapid sales of the new X3.
In the US if there is a similar SAV alongside the Touring they take the SAV. In a way it is a win-win situation.
And it is not just BMW. Audi are experiencing similiar issues between the Q5 and A4 Avant. Mercedes-Benz has breathing space for it's E-Klasse Wagon but wait till the ML-Klasse arrives later this year and watch the Wagon market diminsh.
BMW was first , Volvo was second. But other European manufacturers will be pulling out of the wagon market soon enough.

I could easily see the lowest 3 cyl turbo model with a 318i or 316i badge.

If one manufacturer can avoid the lemming-like rush to SUVs and continue to offer a wagon (or bring it back), that manufacturer will have the market for a sporty wagon to itself.
