Opinion on performance center delivery

CA tells me that my car is now in production but the performance center (east coast) is booked out and the soonest I can pick up there is Aug 30.

If I instead switched the port to NJ then I might get the car a month sooner. He is not sure about that as the build has individual paint and leather so maybe it might take longer to complete.

I'm not sure what to do, I really want to experience the performance center but an extra month is a long time.

A year from now, it won't matter that you waited an extra month. As in, you'll look back and say PCD was totally awesome, I had to wait a little extra time, but in hindsight I'd gladly wait again. Think about all the things you've waited for in the past ...would it matter, now that the waiting is over, whether any of them had taken extra time? No.

I did PCD with my 340i this May, and I can say with certainty that I will be doing it every time I get a new BMW.

This is one of the few instances in life where patience has a guaranteed reward.

Edit: A recommendation, given your distance from PCD - stay an extra night at the Marriott, just indicate you'll be doing that so BMW reserves the room for you for the extra night. Enjoy Greenville/Spartanburg after PCD, then drive home the next day.

Yes I should wait, next time I get a bimmer I want to do EU delivery, I just couldnt this time around because my little one is too young for the plane trip. So this will be my only chance to do performance center anytime during the next 6 to 10 years.

I wished they had timed production with the performance center, I could have gotten digital dash and touch screen idrive with a july production, but they had to go ahead and make it in june so it can sit in a dock for all of august.

i can share those sentiments. me and my wife are expecting in october, so the sooner the better. i actually placed my order in April but didn't get an allocation until this month, and luckily i was able to add the digital cluster at the last second.

my SA forwarded the email to me about the 8/30 date and i couldn't believe that was the soonest they could do. they must be really backed up. but it'll be my first rwd car and i figure it would be a good idea to find it's limits in a controlled location before i do something stupid on the street.

Yeah, PCD can only do 8 deliveries a day. Really limited. Word must be getting out how fun of a program it is.

Actually, everyone, PCD is terrible, don't even bother signing up, I was just kidding in my last post about it being a great thing.

Will they still honor your March program locks in August?

I finally picked mine up yesterday and Frank and their finance guy told me I just made the cutoff on getting the March terms we booked under.

I thought a purchase order was a lock but now you are making me wonder. I will check tomorrow.

kern, I forget . . . I'm pretty sure that you don't have an Individual interior, but do you have an Individual exterior color? My Individual interior was the specific reason that I was given for a delayed production date.

nope, just didn't get an allocation in may and then PCD further pushing the date out. mine is a basic build overall with BSM paint and black sensatec interior, but i couldn't find many coupes with a manual transmission and rwd so i ordered primarily to get those options together.

Thanks for bringing this up. My purchase order date is April 11 and individual gets a lock of 90 days (60 days for non individual). My CA said he would apply for an extension as the delay was from the factory.

if you are leasing i wouldnt panic just yet, at some point the lease rates have to come up on the 2018s as the 2017s finish sell off. its possible you could end up better off.

It's been a long battle getting them to confirm the incentive & rate lock. It had to go up several levels in BMW NA. They agreed to keep the lock even though it will be over 120 days by the time I take delivery.

The special case is that I have individual paint/leather/trim so it took a long time to get the car on the production line.

Glad to hear that they have honored your deal. I think you've been more than patient waiting for this car to be built. Do you have any idea when you'll finally get it?

It just landed at the port yesterday. I still have to wait until September 15th which is my appointment date at the performance center. I could have received it Aug 30th but that date conflicted for me.

The good part is I don't have to start paying the lease until September.

Hamish, great color combo, but I would mark out your production number on the posted picture. This is an identity theft world we live in, especially as this forum is open for all to view.

I don't know what someone can do with the production # but I have heeded your advice and removed it. Thanks!
