Exclamation ED for G20 M340i/M3?

Now this might be too much planning in advance. As the new G20 will be built in Mexico instead of Germany will there be ED for G20 3 series?. Mostly I am asking for the M340i or M3. I have been going back and forth between ordering a 2018 340i or wait for G20 probably mid 2019 in case I wait for G20. Might as well get an ED at that time, but made me wonder if that option would exist. Appreciate your thoughts folks.

Maybe they will ED Mexico in South Carolina?

Does anyone know where exactly is location of the new BMW plant in Mexico; and.. how does everyone feel about the quality at start of the production before they earn awards as they did in the SA Rosslyn- plant? Was the cars put out by SA-Rosslyn at the "Very Beginning" of production have High Quality??? It must of took "awhile for them to earn the Quality Awards"... this should be very concerning for the new start of of the G20 3ers. who would want the first 100 (first "batch") G20-Mexico- 3ers that come off the assembly line? I wouldn't prefer it; I would probably wait and see...

I believe M will always be produced in Germany -- at least non-SUVs.

If you want ED The vehicle will need to be built in Germany.

Although Mexico delivery could cost less if the vehicle is built at their plant there. You have to take delivery down in Mexico City. I've heard it might be as much is 16% off MSRP.

Here's the current breakdown of G20 manufacturing for the U.S. market:

330e - Germany only
330i - both Germany and Mexico
M340i RWD - both Germany and Mexico
M340i xDrive - Germany only

I don't know about M3 but will be very surprised if any of them end up being built in Mexico.

Thank you guys. I thought that entire 3 series production for the US & Canadian market is shifted to Mexico. This means SA is replaced with Mexico.

So what have you decided? Also, the F80 forum says next gen M3 is likely due out for MY2020.

If the M340 isn't available for ED you could always go to a M440 Grande Coupe. Much prettier car and is different than a normal 4 door sedan.

Highly doubtful. Considering M GmbH development schedules, any 2020 M model would already be lapping Nurburgring.

I think you are worrying way too much about this. Mexican auto plants have a reputation for outputting extremely high quality cars. Also consider that for the first few years there will be a LOT of German oversight at these factories. These cars will be built by new employees with a lot of experience being watched over by German plant managers.

Also consider that all parts will be manufactured in Europe and the final assembly is done almost entirely by robots.

What is the highest quality phone available on the market right now? Whatever your answer is, it was probably made in China. Anything can be made well anywhere, the proper investment just needs to be done at those factories. I doubt BMW would risk tarnishing their reputation by dropping the ball on quality in their Mexican made cars.

Because nobody on this thread has questioned the quality of the cars coming from Mexico. He's only asking about European Delivery (ED), which wouldn't be possible if all 3ers were built in Mexico (not the case).

Quality of BMW cars built in Mexico will not depend on the country nor the quality of any other cars built there. It will depend purely on BMW and their management.

But hey I'm assuming time between production date and delivery will drop greatly!
