Stopping the blue Brembo's from squealing. Possible?

Like many others, mine are squealing as I come to a halt when they're warm. It's doing my absolute head in.

So far I've sanded the BMW pads, Greased the back of the pads and sanded down the lips on the discs. This helped to begin with, but it didn't last long.

I'm looking at trying new pads and getting the discs skimmed. Has anyone tried either to find that one works, or should I try both?

Also, which pads should I try. I've read that Ferrodo pads squeal, but EBC Yellow Stuff DP42130R may be ok, although at £150 for the fronts it's quite a punt.

Mine have not squealed once in 18 months.

I dont get a lip on the disc because I have taken mine apart twice and made sure the surfaces where the pads need to be free to move are free of hardened gunge and greased, including the pins which I keep polished.
Done this with all my cars since I was 18 and still never had brakes that squeal.
This may be just a co-incidence, but it worked for me.

Mine have always squealed, with the oem pads, pagid pads and the Ferodo DS Performance pads. The Ferodo’s have been far far better than the other two and only squeal a bit some days and nothing at all other days!

I’ve bought some proper ceratec brake grease to try on them next time I have time to take them apart to clean them, apparently copper grease is advisable on brakes.

Mine are really bad at the moment, I also get a clunk if I’ve braked in reverse then brake going forward - any one have this?

I stripped my brakes down cleaned and greased with Ceratec and had no squeals in over 10k previously from new I had the terrible squealing on coming to a stop. I have now had the M performance discs fitted all round along with standard BMW pads again with Ceratec on the pad backing and sides before inserting back into callipers. The car has now done over 700 miles and went through some very warm weather temperatures with no signs of squealing.

Have you got aftermarket pads? I’ve found that they need ebc shims fitted on the back and over one edge.

Mine have recently started squealing after 3yrs of quiet service.

Funnily enough was advised pads were down to 3k about 4k miles ago ( still got 3k to go on the I drive ) and apparently a lip was developing.

Wonder if that’s the cause.

In 2 years 4 months actually. Car’s done over 60k now! Front pads last me around 25k or so, but I do change them at 4mm.

Blimey that’s some rate of brake consumption. I’m on 43k and original pads with a bit left!

As previous post had original pads that squealed coming to a stand stripped and had 10k of silence once cleaned and greased. Front pads were changed with 3k left on idrive but pad measuring 3mm no sensor trigger, rears were just a little more at 4mm idrive showing 12k. Overall pads covered 35k and once reset fronts went to 35k and rears 40k.

68k on mine now - no squeals from new... Changed all round at 40k for Zimmermann drilled & slotted due to a warped rear disc with Pagid pads all round, copious use of copper grease and all has continued to be fine since. I do lots of motorway miles so perhaps more high speed heavy braking than some may help?

I've just hit 23k and the service light is saying 6000k left on the front brakes. If I get 30k out the fronts I'll be happy I guess

How accurate is the sensor?

Strange, I've never heard of that on oem pads. If i were you i'd fit some ebc shims.

The idrive can be reset at any time whether your brake pads have been changed or not, so it's just a guide and not a true reflection of wear

How many miles have you done on these pads? Mine started squeaking quite loudly as I came to a stop and the iDrive said I had 3,600 miles left at the time. The pads had a touch under 4mm remaining and BMW recommend changing at 4mm and since I've replaced them with the OEM pads I haven't heard a peep out of them.

Can't be sure as I've only had the car a few weeks, although they look pretty new, have shims and grease.

You can’t rely on the CBS countdown, even waiting for the sensor to trigger is a bad idea because one of the other three pads that doesn’t have a sensor could have worn faster and could go down to metal, ruining the disc.

Really is best to check all four pads visually.

Knew I could rely on the font of all BMW wisdom for an answer

Didn’t know that about the sensor.

Mines reading 3k miles so better keep an eye on things.

Thanks for the info !!!
